Salvaging data from old zip disks

Anyone know the file system the MPC2000 use?
I wonder why it is possible to create long filenames inside the MPC but Win or Mac cant handle this.
FAT16 uses the 8.3 restriction. If the MPC uses FAT16 it has to use an internal trick to create long filenames. Or is something like EA(extended atributes) or VFAT used on the MPC

What about linux?

I used to format the disks in Fat file system. You should always format your disks on the pc, if you can. If you format in the mpc, you will (have a hard time) trying to recover data from zip disks. Best bet is to get a card reader, they're dirt cheap nowadays, and
you have the security of knowing of you can't really damage a cf card. One thing about cf cards though: Sometimes the pc will corrupt the cf card when you try to write to disk via pc's cf card reader. If you have a mpc 1000, you can put your 2000xl cf in the 1000, and mount to pc and write to disk via mpc 1000. That method seems to work flawless for me, I haven't had anymore problems with corruption using this method.

As for linux, I don't have a clue, but aren't the algorithms based on windows programs for compatibility if I'm not mistaken?

SO I am screwed. I can't get into the disks using the MPC. It just locks up. And I don't know how many .snd files may have more than 8 char's.

Grr...

Might try opening the disks up to see if any have come separated as previously mentioned.

Nothing else seems to be an option.

Bad sectors I think.
