pads play random samples

i just bought a used MPC500 from someone and every time i hit ONE pad more then once it will play random and or layered samples even when i take off all other samples on that pad for instance ill hit A1 and it will say A7 and when i try to set tempo by taping it will automatically go to 300BMP.... any solutions or did i get ripped off

I think the person had the samples layered on a pad and setted it to velocity. You can have a total of 4 samples layered to a pad and they can all sound off simultaniously or sound off individually depending on how hard you hit the pad, so if you got a kick, cymbal, and hi-hat layered on one pad and when you tap it, the hats is triggered, hit it a little harder and the cymbal is triggered, strike full force and the kick is triggered. You can do all that with the 500.

Yai took off all the other samples. I think it's the pads cause when I try to tap the pads for tempo it automatically goes to 300bpm and I can't change it unless I use the wheel not even using the " numeral" will work

looks like you got screwed

maybe it´s the ram. if you have the ram expansion installed, take it out and see if that helps. or maybe the pad sensor (mpcstuff carries them: http://www.mpcstuff.com/akai-mpc-500-pad-sens500.html) is fvcked.

maaan i did the reinstall the software and its still doing the same thing.... something is wrong with the pads i think

Then the **** dropped soda into the MPC and sold it to you.

One last resort would to open her up and spray the boards with Contact, which is an electronic cleaner, not the air-duster type, this stuff is like WD-40 but for electrical parts. You can get it at Home Depot at their lights and wires section. Spray everything in there even the knobs and microchips, let it dry for an hour or two, then put it back together and fire it up.

Also check out your RAM, if you got the 128MB RAM installed, remove it and see what happens when it runs on the internal 16MB RAM, if no problem, then its a faulty RAM like **** said. And if it doesn't have the 128 RAM, you should get one to see if that'll solve the problem, it works vice-versa.
