Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By jazz and wine Thu Jul 21, 2011 12:10 pm
Excuse me for asking, but maybe you will be able to answer me and help.

I sell the CompactFlash card and one customer bought one of them with 512MB to his AKAI MPC2000XL. The card is obviously efficient, but does not want to interact with the device. Or do you know why this is happening, or you may need something on the card to upload? For all the information I will be grateful.

Yours sincerely,
Krystian

From my understanding only certain compact flash cards work with the cf mpc drives.i still had my old one that came from akai so i didn't have a problem.but when i bought new ones my drive wouldn't detect it.its very odd and im still trying to figure it out for myself.they say only buy scandisc brand s but i did that and they still didn't work.i guess it all depends on what drive you use too. mpcstuff have working ones but they charge 40 bucks a card when i found the same ones for 11 bucks but thy wouldn't load.

I sell the CompactFlash cards and I know them very well ;)
It does not matter what brand is the producer and how much it costs.
I think Akai is in FAT32 file system and just need to format the card that way, then you may install the operating system on this card.
I'm not sure, but I think it may be good.

We'll see. I have written to the client. He will try. If all will be fine, you can buy cards from me, because my cards are cheap and good, and I always prepare everything on the card as it should. Only someone needs to check this, because I do not have Akai.

Look at my listings on eBay, my nickname: virunga.eu ;)

Kind regards,
Krystian

Some people sell these expensive cards, based on the ignorance of customers who think that only these cards work, there are some better, special. But it's not true, in my opinion. Cards are cards. They simply install them in advance what you need.

The ignorance of customers? You are clueless.
I guess selling memory cards and knowing about memory cards are two different things. Not all memory cards are created equal. For instance, some cards are faster to write and read. Cheap cards are more likely to corrupt data. If you don't believe me, ask any serious digital photographers.
For MPC-2000XL (and other old music devices that support CF cards), they are very picky on CF cards. As far as I know, Sandisk brand CF cards work very well. Other brands are hit and miss.
I do own XL, and I can tell you that from my own experience.

Did you have this happen with many customers?

Because if you have just one guy that is having this problem out of a whole bunch maybe there is just something wrong with his drive?

JVC, you are right. But I'm just such a dealer, who knows at this really good. Besides, I worked professionally as a photojournalist. I do not have anyone to ask about anything here. Believe me.

Of course, we have different types of cards, the cards have different capacities and speeds. Believe me, knows about it every salesperson ;)

Saying that there is no difference, ignoring these issues. We assume that the card has adequate capacity, speed (generally a very overrated thing), and the type is correct. And then it does not matter what kind of card is, because each must be good! If the components are weak, poor memory, can quickly spoil, be emergency. But even she has to act. And please, do not argue with me here, because you do not know in this topic more than me. If you sell the cards for several years, various imported brands, no name too, you'd know what I know. And I know ;)

San Disk has a very good card, maybe even the best. But I assure you that I find out what and how to install on my card and will work with your Akai as well ;)

Mosdman, it seems to me that with my client's Akai is all OK. I am in contact with him. His other cards are working good.
The cards are used in so many different devices that it is hard to name all. Previously, I hadn't a client who needed a card for Akai, I had no such problem.
Now I learn that Akai always starts with the external media on which you install the system. It is natural then my cards do not work with his Akai. They haven't an operating system for Akai.
Today I go to a friend who is a computer master ;) and he will help me to install such a system on my cards. Then I think everything will be OK.

JVC, and that interest me such problems that I register here, I want to learn something more about it, only proves that I am not only a salesman, but widening my knowledge to be the best seller ;)

JVC, believe me, that is not in the card is the problem. Each card can be good for Akai (of course if there is adequate capacity, speed).
Many cards will not work because there is no system. You can buy every card and install it yourself. Either way, you can buy a card from the dealer who will install the appropriate system before, although it will be a normal card.

And I'm sorry if something upset you, because I did not want that. I do not know English well, I use the translator, and it certainly does not explain the way I think.

Your English isn't problem, but your insistence of believing that all CF cards must work on XL might be a problem.
XL does NOT need system (operating system for XL) loaded on CF card, it would load OS from its flash RAM already installed on its motherboard.
Like I said before, I do own XL, and I installed CF reader (non-swappable) on my XL. Incompatible CF card would not let XL boot up even.

Back to your first post, I think the CF card you sold to your customer is most likely incompatible with XL.
