MPC2kXL: Recording Doubt...[Help needed] Thanks!

Hi, I've been recording my 2kXL beats using an Alesis I02 usb interface and it does the job. I record the beat onto Cool Edit Pro and it works fine.
But for some time, I've been hearing alot about using Pro Tools to record beats and that it is a great software for production(I heard 9th wonder saying it) and since I never was able to get the real sound out of my MPC, I started to wonder about if buying a MBox off ebay would be the best solution to get the sound I want.
Now that I'm thinking of doing a beat tape it would really be great if I could show the true sound of my beats.
Can you guys give me some tips or just tell what's the best method to record a beat? I've already found some good deals on ebay but don't want to jump ahead on the purchase.

You are recording the exact same thing with your alesis that you would be recording with an mbox. I mean, you are getting the 'true sound'.

The reason people use protools is because it offers more in the way of realtime processing later...such as compression, limiting, eq, etc....which are all in Cool edit, btw. Just different.

Basically, if you get an mbox and protools and hit record, it's going to sound the same.

Yeah, it's more the utilities that you have within pro tools. Like crossfades, cutting tools, and everything Nogginj said, like compression, eq and such. Then you got midi channels, so you can set up vsts with your mpc, or rewire with Reason. It adds a whole new world of possibilities. But if your just now starting, I would say just work with you got and only focus on beatmaking. Unless you already have knowledge of mixing. I didn't worry about none of this stuff for my first few years, strictly beat making in the machine. I'm not saying not to explore into this field though. Just saying it be good to to perfect your beatmaking craft before worrying about mixing and everything that comes after. Good Luck.
