Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I know that you can set up the MPC to mute a sound when a pad is pressed. but is there there a way to mute a sound with a pad and then "un mute" it and have the original sound keep playing (without restarting from the beginning of the sample?). like for silencing a portion in the middle of a sample. let me know if you have trouble understanding what I mean.

you can mute/solo tracks in realtime. in realtime only though. you can't sequence it.
but put the sound you want to mute on its own track then open the track mute screen (hit open window with track:on/off selected)
now hit the pad that correspondes with the track you want to mute. hit it again to unmute it. put any sounds you want to keep playing during the mute on a different track.

There are a couple of ways to silence a section of a sample, but none of them involve the pads. One is to use the mixer screen to silence a portion. The other is to use the Sample editing function to destructively silence a particular section of the sample.

"Can you do this using the non Xl."

I imagine so if the MPC has mixer screen.

yeah in your screen go to and highlight the (on) in the screen and then press the open window button and a new screen appears. then press play and you can see the tracks you want to mute out. by pressing the pad. when the track is not highlighted it on (dark highlight) and when the track is off theirs no hightlight. this gives me an general idea of what i want to mute out when i;'m building my tracks in song mode. this is for the mpc-2000. and not the xl model.

you must be looking at the wrong screen. he didn't mention anything about a mixer. he wanted to know if thier was a way to mute out a sound using the pads. not the mixer.

I wished people followed threads.

Somone stated (me):
"One is to use the mixer screen to silence a portion:..

And someone asked:
"Can you do this using the non Xl."

I do not see anything in there about using the pads so I do understand why you jumped in with the track mute which actually was NOT even related to the original question at hand (which was how to mute a sound while it is playing).
