On the real though, knowing you are dying and killing off 2 full lengths in your hospital room?? Thats the hard work and dedication that makes one not just good at what they do, but the VERY BEST at what they do. Everyone into music should be able to find inspiration in what Dilla did with his life.

What regrettably happened to J Dilla was that he died before he got proper recognition from general audience, and even from avid music consumer like myself.
I found out about him right after he died. I knew many of the songs he did, but I didn't know he did it (Janet Jackson's "Got Til Its Gone", for one. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis won Grammy for the song. I was hunting for the 12 inch, I did not know about J Dilla that time.)
His work was impressive, he definitely created neo-soul sound, but he did not stayed in one style.
His last album "Donuts" is my personal favorite. I did not get it at first (actually it was somewhat shocking to me), but it ended up my one of my heavy locations.
In short, I don't think he is overrated at all, because many folks still don't know much about his work, but drop his name, when they are talking about greatest hip hop producers.
