Got a new jack kid that is not impressed with his 2500 (non JJOS, max RAM, no HD w/ CD drive) that his parents bought him. Wants my 2KXL (internal 9 GB HD, PCD-47 SCSI card reader, 8-outs, 32MB RAM) to trade straight up so people will take him seriously with his music.

Dude sux regardless but I've told him how much better the 2500 is (USB, more memory, HD + JJOS!!!). He doesn't care and wants to keep it old school with an older MPC.

I know my 2KXL inside and out sinse I bought it first in 2000 and modded it but think I need to move on MPC wise (still got my MV8000 and ASR-10).

I'm stumped. What ya'll think?

Soooo it does or doesn't have JJ? Also, have you used a 2500 before? Dig you dig it?

I'd hate to make a swap like that and end up regretting it later :(

go for it!

we will take you seriously with your music on a mpc2500 juke :D

take out the scsi card reader and put in a cheap ide cf reader.....so you can sell it to pay for additional memory / jjos for your new toy

yeah take out the scsi card reader as mentioned for sure... keep that aside and copy your internal drive onto the computer...

then grab that 2500, and buy a new XL in a minute.

Normally I would say **** it keep the tool in the toolbox if you aint broke and starving... especially when you have a history with the machine and know where you are musically... but if you can easily replace anything that was lost then **** it.

It has the Nukai OS and he never tried the JJOS because he never heard of it.

This was my first time ever fkn wirh a 2500 and it was a breath of fresh air! Even without the JJOS it was a different workflow (I only used the JJOS on my boys 1K and was impressed with It).

financially, it seems a great deal.
but are you happy with the sound of the 2500/1000?
I was till I bought a sS3000xl and heard the difference. Now the 1000 is mainly used only for sequencing.

There's no way I could roll with the XL again after upgrading to the 2500 with JJ. It's the perfect switch up for XL users. I also prefer the more transparent sound. 8)

I just got my 2000Xl back after 4 years. And my 2500 is my centerpiece. If you like that 2500, I say make the trade and when that kid gets bored with the 2000XL - buy it back from him.

Yes, make sure you get first refusal if he ever decides to offload the 2KXL.

Krush is right....If he dont like the 2500 and wont pay to upgrade it to what it can be, he is probably going to try and get rid of the XL within 6 months.

Work out a value for the XL with him before hand, and make sure he knows you can get one for $400 off of ebay. Then tell him you got first dibs on the XL WHEN he sells it.

I love my XL too much to get rid of it though!!!
