Original Akai CF Card

Maybe if you put your location up there maybe someone in the vicinity who could come to your rescue. All thats needed. I think, is someone to pop round with the 1.24OS on their original CF & then you could get started.

After that, once you load JJ OS in then I think it'll load subsequent OS's off the hard drive.

It seems no-one wants to let on where they live on this forum.

I think likelihood of it being cf brand issue and not missing pin is slim imo...you are potentially looking at cf cad pcb replacement...I would check which pin it is and give forat or vst a call and ask their opinion...but most likely they will tell you the same.

Normally I would think like you konc3pt, you'd think there was one consistent CF card standard. But exactly the same thing happened to me when putting in JJ for the first time - 3rd party CF didn't work, 'Wrong Card' message, tried it on the Akai CF and worked fine.

The Card Reader on my MPC works 100%. Its the screen thats acted up and all the tacts that needed replacing, but CF fine. It all points to the Akai CF being a bit different. Wonder if there are slightly different 2500 hardware versions that get this card issue. It's just with operating system BINs and nothing else.

That is really weird IMO....Let me ask you this, so after first initial JJos install using akai cf card...can you now switch between akai OS and JJos using any cf card ? or does it still have to be akai one ?

dude... if your flash card is missing a pin IT'S BROKEN. you need to replace your flash card drive. end of story. just because the other pins acknowledge the presence of a CF card when inserted, doesn't mean it's not broken. seriously man, once you saw a broken pin you should have had a EUREKA moment...

I don't think I have tried that. Once JJ was in I was happy, I think subsequent OS loads can be from disk. May have to try it out sometime. But the initial load had to be from the Akai CF only.

It's been a long time but I think I had 1.23 (which was a shed & wouldn't do Hard Drives properly) then went to 1.24. 1.24 had to be on the Akai CF for certain, then I think the JJ 5.54 had to be on the Akai CF too. And from then on I think I did the JJ updates from the Akai CF just because I'm using it as a backup media for all my OS's, but its not compulsory for JJ.
There may just have been something in 1.23 that demanded the use of the Akai CF. But that still implies that there is something different about the original Akai CF, like an embedded manufacturer code or something.

Just looked at my CF Pins. All intact & 100% straight.

But I only got the 'Wrong Card' message when doing the OS's, not at any other time.
Didn't see the previous DaftmarC post about the missing pin until Crossings pointed it out though. Certainly step 1 is to get a new card reader. But the Akai CF still may be needed after that.

Hmmmmm okay... Lets settle once and for all! try this!

Take the pin that daft is missing and give it a try...

I just received the replacement part for the card reader. I haven't found any vids or instructions on how to install it though.

look up videos from mpcstuff.com they got videos showing how to replace other parts but they mention cf card reader...that's what I did...it's actually not that hard...I had to disassemble cf card reader to straighten out one of the prongs

I already looked at mpcstuff vids and can't find one on Card reader installation for the mpc 2500.

After sending my mpc to a repair shop I got the card reader fixed and guess what, the mpc still won't read os files off CF cards. I still get the "Wrong card message".

maybe the broken pin is still in the flash card you're using?

get a new cf card.. the one you have is probably not liked by the machine

The broken pin is not in the CF card. I have 3 Cf cards that fit the Akai recommended specs of up to 2gb type II cards and still nothing.

3 cf cards later what is that tell you???.. I'm using non akai and have no problem
