Recording vocals directly into your MPC 4000

I have plugged my Mic into the line/mic in the back but is getting no sound at all. Have not ever been able to. What should I do?

What should happen once you set it to mic? I get no popups and pressing record has no mic sound.

That switch is for either Phono or Mic/Line.

This means that only a dynamic mic will work with it, some mics need a pre amp or phantom power to work.
Line level outputs are usually higher than a mic output so you would have to crank up the recording gain level on the MPC to get a decent level even with a dynamic mic.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the manuals about what mics can be used, or if phantom power is available on the mic/line inputs, so I guess that means it isn't.

What type of mic are you using?

Even if you get your mic working, you may get better results running your mic through a pre amp or mixer first.

Are you set to record in mono?

Make sure input source is set to analog in and the monitor is set to on in the record window.Also make sure mode is set to mono r or mono L.Also adjust the record gain knob and button on the top right of the unit.Input selector switch on the back should be set to line/mike.And your mike should not be the phantom power variety.Make sure your level are turned up in the mixer window.Its should work now.

Yeah you should be fine. I have the crapiest mic and it works fine.
