Yea.. but for 2000XL users, this is a god send. To have an option, internally
(well on the faceplace) to have 1G of storage ( in the pic is a 1G disk).
I know a couple of 2000XL people that are hoping they sell these seperately.
Though is interesting that they are releasing this , with the rumor of the
upcoming MPC 1500. That would mean that their would be 4 MPC's
on the market.
1. MPC 1000
2. MPC 1500
3. MPC 2000XL
4. MPC 4000
Can't really see them discontinueing the MPC 1000 so new after release, plus
it's size definitely gives it, it's own market. MPC 1000 and a Laptop packs
up into a Laptop backpack very well, and they compliment each other quite well.
Can't see the discontinueing the 2000XL if they are releasing new versions of it
(though this could be technology that they will be implementing into the 1500).
I guess their will be a MPC for everybody's needs

It's only a rumor, but Blue Haze on the
"Maybe a Suprise Coming this Christmas thread" stated:
http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php ... sc&start=1
"Yeah the individual track length I hinted was considered but not implimented in the coming O.S. But I was hinted again that it may be featured in 2005. Also a future hybrid 1500 series may come out at year end or Jan 2005 sort of between the 2XL and 4K. The new 4K O.S. will have a few very nice surprises for remixing tracks but thats all I can say and yeah you are getting close Rob san"
Plus from the DPS forums :
http://p206.ezboard.com/fdpsworldfrm5.s ... =482.topic
"Hey all.. Not trying to add to the old rumours but in the latest Future Music (October), in the review of the MV8000 the author put "Akai allegedly have another MPC product in their wings.""
So can't guarantee anything. I guess we'll all be keeping our eyes open at the Winter
NAMM show

Just guessing at this but, if AKAI PRO comes out with a new MPC it will have to offer better features than the 1000. The 1000 is their low cost model and still new on the market. While the 4000 is the flagship. The 4000 is what? 2 1/2 yrs. old, so I doubt that they would come out with something better than that. It would have to be something better than the 2000XL. Let say 2Qlink sliders and 2 Qlink knobs. Option for CD drive, or Hard Drive. 24/96 maybe.

Future Music Magazine just reviewed the Roland MV 8000...and in the closing paragraph, when comparing it (mv 8000) to the Akai MPC's (no specific model) said something like " and knowing that Akai has a new MPC in the wings...." ...or something to that effect...so maybe inside info who knows..
The Roland Product got a fine review...and there were plenty of positive "Akai" references sprinkled through-out the article .

I have seen crazier things happen. Look at korg, they still want to say that the triton studio is there flagship but the new extream overal is really better for a hella lot less.

yeah young keyz^^^^ but i think they are doing that so that studio owners can resell thiers for alot more! And then buy the triton extreme. I would say current owners are more likely to purcahse the extremem than newbies.....because they want those sounds! A newbie wont care so much. .....or so they can still sell upgrades. Its all about perception, ya know.
the 2000xl needs:
Everything else should stay the same....aside from the new media drive update.
it also needs to stay metal...non of that plastic shit.
the 2000xl needs:

More filters
lower scroll wheel.
more midi ins and outs.
