No, that's not what I'm saying in that sentence. I say I personally don't have any experience with 5K lemons and don't know how to identify any of them.

In any other case I say that the OS / software side is way way way way better than most of you guys think.

Thanks for the info. I guess it's not a coincidence I never had that crash, I never ever use the tap tempo, haha. But I will try to reproduce!

Im in the same position, torn between getting an MPC1000/2500 JJOS or saving to get the MPC Ive always wanted, but because of all of the mis-information on the MPC5000 I've held off from buying one.


octobot how do you find the zoom+/- in sample editing, after reading John Mayers review he wasn't so complementary about workflow on the MPC5000.

Also what bugs stand out on the MPC5000? If any that affect running day to day, if they dont affect day to day running, then it sounds solid enough....

It would be cool to have a run down of feature lists for JJOS against what the MPC5000 can do....

I will be honest, and say I got a loan to get an MPC1000, but have held off, as I dont want to spend loads on upgrading when maybe I should wait and add to this money and get the MPC I've always wanted. I've read countless threads, watched youtube videos, all to still feel slighty confused, owners of different models will argue theirs are better so I guess this is the reason why.

What can JJOS do for me what the MPC5000 can't?

Hehe, Octobot, that's a new one and also fits since I also have the Octatrack and had much fun with it today.

Honestly the sample editing/zooming in on the waveform on the 5000 is ok, but could be better and more fluent when compared with some software products. I'm pretty quick at chopping with the right decimal position on the sample start and end points and dialing those via the jog wheel.
The qlink sliders are good for coarse adjustments, but especially the one for the end point is too jumpy.. maybe it's just my slider.

The zooming in is IMO too extreme and not a big help in most cases. It's good for getting the right zero sample crossing though.
Chop Shop works good when dividing in equal length segments and then adjusting start and end points of the slices. Auto divide by transients works good for drum loops, not so good for other kinds of samples, but that's the nature of auto chopping.

There are no bugs I have encountered, only a slight temporary slugishness when auditioning samples from hard disk here and there. And the slugishness of the one slider for the sample end point I described above.

I don't have any experience with JJOS, but the sample chopping, adjusting and other editing possibilities in the MPC 5K are the best I have seen in a hardware box.

I don't know about any advantages of JJOS, but like I said I don't have any experience with it and do know it only by reading about it. AFAIK it's said that it has non-destructive chopping which's supposed to be cool.

Physically the 5K comes with more RAM, better connectivity, an HDD as standard and other advanced software functions like continuous sample tracks, sample cycle mode, a multitimbral synth and a better sequencer with much better resolution though.

^ He pretty much nailed it. I agree about adjusting with the Q links.... It can jump a little. ( That's the only thing that bugs me sometimes, mostly when I'm trying to work real fast though.)

Hands down it's hella easy to load a folder and creating a program with it. You can assign samples super fast from the trim menu with the shift button.( os 2.0 ) makes it real fast to build a new kit from wav files on the hd.
