Yeah, being that the 500 was my first MPC, it was hard at first for me too. Its really easy once you're familiar with it. Plenty of youtube videos though. On this site, if you click on the MPC500 Tutorial, you can purchase the pdf guide, which is alot easier to read than the manual.
The 500 is like this: Programs is where you have your sound kits, whether be it samples from a record, synth sounds or drum kits. Sequence is where these sounds come to life when you play the pads containing the sound kits. Everything else is tweaksville. Constantly save your work and you're good.
