Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

They come in sizes from 8 mb's up to 1 gig.

I wouldn't run out and buy a new MPC just for the card reader but I'm sure Akai will make the reader available on it's own.

Im looking to get rid of my 2kxl pretty soon (hoping to grab the 4000) just keeping my options open. I hope akai realeases the card reader, as more storage built directly into my xl would def make me think twice about getting rid of it.

At least with the card reader you won't hear the "click" and "whirl" of the disk. And it will access samples quicker from the removable card.
I'm with BRAVO though... Akai needs to seriously update the 2kxl OS.
As for me... the 250mb Zip has been plenty.

as far as the software go what o.s. updates could the 2kxl really be able to handle. what i mean is what could be writen into the 2kxl o.s. i myself would just kill for resample so you could just create drum sounds(layering) and just resample them. but i know it can never be put in....right!

"And it will access samples quicker from the removable card. "

Not really. I've been using card readers with the MPC series for years. CF cards are pretty slow and some can be slower than Zips. Cards do vary between manufacturer and Simpletech are probably the most recommended for high performance. Read this for more info:

is yours different?

when i say resample im not talking about sampling the same sound but at a lower bit rate. Im talking about being able to take two sounds that i have layer wth the mpc and sample them both so that i have one new sample. Thats the resample im talking about.

Are there any IDE card readers out there that work with the 2000xl?
Or will we have to wait for Akai's own IDE reader (which will probably be overpriced...)

Is it likely that Akai are going to sell this 'new' MPC with an updated OS to enable it to talk to the cardreader?

I have not found an IDE card reader that does, but I buy SCSI ones for at little as $10 all the time. I have all kinds of card readers lying around, more than I can actually use. IDE or SCSI, the operation is the same.
