New application for the MPC 2000 XL - Now v0.4

Yes i have a 2000xl and i figured it out even tho my files say wav i still have to convert what ever i run thru your program so that i have all my sounds when i go to load them up. good app so far so good.so i convert the wavs with another program then drop into your program save it now im good i have all my sounds up and ready just wish i could pick what ever folder i want to save them to instead of dumping it to my desktop

and your program does play back sounds didnt know if you knew that but it works on my mac very well

@FLEKZZ : If you load wav files from a folder, and you save the PGM inside the same folder, the files won't be overridden, so you can think it hasn't save the wav files. If it is not your problem, it is pretty weird... Maybe you load a PGM file, and "save with sounds", but if the sound files are not in the same folder as the PGM you loaded, the wav files won't be saved, as they are not found. Actually, the path to wav files are not written in the PGM file, this is only the name of your files, so the PGM won't search on your disk for some strange path.

You can now directly install it from the website.

You can now open the file by double-clicking on it. This feature wasn't implemented in v0.1, weirdly...
There is now one window for each file you open.
Hope it is better this way !

but havin a lil trouble with it ... it saves the pgm and the specific sounds to the folder i direct it too but, when i load the pgm into the mpc 2kxl it says cant find file(s) ... but the files are there just doesn't load up ... i think this is because the sounds i choose to load on to the pads had to b renamed because of the length ( your software automaticly does this ).. but when i save pgm with sounds it doesn't keep the modified new name .. and saves the sounds with the old name so i think the mpc is confused lookin for the new named file ... is there a way around this or should i just manualy rename all my files

also when i try to play a sound it says "its impossible for this software to play sound"

im running on an i-mac with op system 10.6.4

Thanks for your work on this, and making it available it to us. I put a CF card reader in my XL recently, so I'll definitely be trying your app as I fill up my CF cards. I like the UI, simple, but looks good.

As for the playing of sounds, there are some problems with some sounds. Some have not been encoded correctly, some others are not in 44100 or 22050 Hz, and some others are in 12 bits. I have to find turnarounds to make it work with the programming language I'm using. But that's not the aim of this soft, basically.

I just noticed that menus were removed on Windows on this last version. I tested in on a Mac... But send me some feedback if these weird things happen. You cannot do a lot of things without menus ...

basically, I tried it... I had a folder on my desktop (vista 32 bit, not that it matters) that was copied from a project I made on the 2000 classic... (as a backup... I have a usb floppy drive)

I dragged each sound onto the proper pads ignoring my "all programs and sounds" file that was already created on the 2000. I made a new one choosing "with sounds" and created a new folder on the desktop... it only put the pgmtest1 (as I named it) file in the folder with no sounds... it also didn't include the extension in the name which the ones created on the 2000 do... so I left it as is and copy/pasted the audio files into the folder.

dragged the contents of the folder into the floppy and the program file did nothing int he classic.. in the load screen it sees it, but pushing "do it" has no response.

so I put the floppy back in the computer and changed the file extension to ".APS" which is what the "all programs and sounds" is called.. and nothing.. same result.. I put it back into the computer and changed it to ".pgm" .. which also had no result.

My guess is that the application is designed to appoint wav files and not .snd audio files... am I correct? the .wav feature was something added to the xl that was not implemented in the 2000 classic.


if you want I could save a project on my mpc in a floppy... then drag/drop that to a folder on my PC and send it to you.

Sorry for that late reply, but i was in holidays.

The best thing you can do is to send me a pgm file created with your MPC 2000. I'll see if it is close to the XL. If not, I'm not sure to take the time to make it work for the classic.
And as for the SND files, my soft works with this format. I don't change the sound files (only their names).
Your bug is strange and I will need some more informations. And forget about APS, my soft creates only PGM file format.

read the entire thread and click the link... you will see real quick that it's free and we are already at the point of discussing bugs and compatibility with other model(s)

it's different because this guy (the original poster) made the application himself instead of paying... then he was nice enough to upload it online.
