Don't know how to use my eb16...

Hi all,

I just bought the eb16 effects board for my MPC2000XL and I read the horrible manual... I CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT!!! I have a drum hit assigned to a pad in one of my programs and I can't even figure out how to hear what it sounds like with an effect added to it! I bought this thing on Ebay. My MPC recognizes that it's there so it must be properly installed, and I assume it's not broken. I'm following the instructions from the manual to the letter but there's something I'm not doing right. Can someone give me a simple rundown of every step I need to follow if, for example, I want to add some echo to my drum sound? Thanks very much!

go to the mixer section.......you must go into fx send FIRST! In order to set the level of how much effect you want. you do this by selecting the
pad you want....then rotating the dial to adjust.
Next go to the very top of the channel by using the cursor....rotate the dial to one of four settings....m1, m2, r1, or r2.

now go to fx edit........in the top right corner you will see multi 1........highlight and rotate to match the other screen you just came from....multi1, multi2, reverb1, or reverb2. now reverb is automatically on when you get to that screen.....but to choose another....use the cursor to highlight it......now at the bottom right corner you see off/on......hit it to turn them on....you will now it is on when it is in the up position....hit open window to set all your settings for the particular effect chosen........now play the pad and you can here the effect...if not loud enough...go back to fx send and adjust it.

thanks a lot man! I'll try that as soon as I can! I think my problem might have been that the level of the effects was too low and I couldn't hear it. We'll see, thanks again.

If you didnt have the effects board installed you wouldnt be able to access the FX menu correct? I seem to be able to turn up the fx send on my kick for example, but no effect is audible.

try this, turn up (to the max) the fx send on the desired pad... then click FXEDIT, and if you see an odd picture with the mountain then you dont have the eb16... otherwise you will see the fx screen. click open window on the module to the furthest right.. and turn the direct volume all the way down... now turn the rev/mod/filt/ (the 3 things to the right of that open window) to the max... and you will hear the effect ...

Well, I'm seeing all the FX menus but i'm yet to be able to get them to work.. I hope to god the cards not broken.

I send a full signal from FX send and have done what you have said and nothing.. Anything else I can try?

I've done exactly what spacecowdude has done, but when I pump up the send volume nothing happens, I've read the manual and tried everything.. I'm thinking my card must be shagged!

are you sure you are turning up the send volume on the right pad?

how about this, is it possible you make a video and maybe I or someone else will see where things are going wrong.

Not only that, but documenting this could be very important because this is the first time I have heard of this effect board doing anything like this.

Beside the send level of the pad you also have to set the FX channel you want the pad to go. Its right above the send level of the pad (in the send mixer screen) and you can choose M1, M2, R1 or R2

I find it useful sometimes. You have to find a good setting. I use SMALL ROOM on drums but always change the settings. And also use it very subtl. Its for sure not a reverb you want to hear loud or use to really place your sound. You cant comapre it with a Lexicon or Eventide or some PlugIn.
