Reaper 4 released

I'm not Nym, but I would tell them to check the cockos forums, there's tons of information..
And there is not that many known probs, because cockos fixes those fast.
Just compare the updates in reaper vs. pro tools..

sadly, Maat Hotep is either uninformed regarding the amount of resources available or is dismissing them because they're not released by Cockos themselves (though the user guide writer is compensated for his time, i believe)

he's right that there is value of having tons of "tutorials (and) experienced users who can help solve PROB(lem)s, data base of past PROB(lem)s/known issues"
but like J.London just mentioned, there is a Reaper forum...which happens to be full of tutorials and experienecd users who can help solve problems. in fact, it's also a searchable data base of past problems/known issues. in more exciting fact, it's also a source of additional features, functionality, and plugins due to brilliant collaborators who contribute to the community.


point being, the Reaper forum is full of extremely helpful people who have gotten me out of plenty jams, including several extremely sticky computer hardware issues that had nothing to do with reaper at all.

regarding tutorials, Justin (head programmer at cockos) wrote a program called LICEcap that records a .gif of your screen...the forums are full of demonstrative gifs on "how to" do certain tasks...

Reaper is amazing. Props to Nym for putting me on to it. I was a day away from updating cubase (like $400) when Nym put me on. It caused me to permanately retire cubase. Havent looked back since. It is soooo customizable (toolbars, dockers, w.a.l.t.e.r. theme editing.....and my goodness the routing capabilities!!!!!!). Everything just makes sense. Im just now getting into customizing the tool bars and macros myself. And something that doesnt get talked enough about are its included plugins. They might not be that appealing to the eye but to my ears....NICE!!!! My initial love of the program a few years back was that i could run it on my old single core cpu. Now with my new pc reaper just puuuurrrrrrsssss. I do use other tools for my creative/composition stage but eventually everything gets thrown into to reaper whether tracking in from the mpc or via rewire ableton/reason. lol i got templates created for all purposes. Reaper $60...cant beat that with a bat.

But yeah Reaper isnt a substitute for skill but it definitely stepped my beat game up im not gonna lie... My workflow is much faster so Im able to bang out way more tracks than I would in an MPC....

This looks really good. I wouldnt use the midi at all (all out the MPC) tho so Im still pondering over the audition cs5.5. If anyone has used both how would you say they match up? Bearing in mind CS5.5 is $149.99 with a student discount. Ive used Audition for recording vocals and beats for years Im always quite suprised that more people dont use it.

but i would check out their development style/licensing type and compare it to Reaper.
that would really be the kicker.
also check out the community involved. does audition have a community of folks who add to the program's worth?

if any of you get into scripting, reaper lets you create layouts for the mixer or track control panel...you can really do a ton of different stuff with them...for tracks that are just serving as midi routers, you can get rid of the useless meter, volume slider, and pan knob (since there is no audio coming through) and have it only display the stuff you'd need. i just learned how to do this.

Yeah they have a good help site and FAQ section. Ive never had to delve into the community really. I think reaper is offers too much to me I dont need all that midi and vst stuff. I record straight out the box I only use Audition for its recording and mastering so all that madness means very little to me.

then you could probably get away with anything that can run VSTs for mastering, such as the free Wavosaur editor.
definitely no need to spend $149 (or $60 for that matter) for basic recording and mastering...that goes for vsts, too.
