First MPC 2000 Purchase - Looking for Advice

ok guys had a few days to think it over, thanks again for all your input (cant believe Warren Harris was one of your instructors krush! thats unreal). Went to see the 2000. Wasnt happy with it guy kind of led me astray and the unit was not in the condition that it was stated so I think I will look elsewhere.

Started doing some math:

2000: Unit: €250 + €120 (8 out) + €20( Fix the jacks) + €20 (new pads) = approx. €410 but what happens if the screen goes after 6 months? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

MV-8000: Will be less than €500 for one in excellent condition + all expansions + 20" monitor?

Two other options that have come to me over the weekend: (never thought id have this many haha)

1000: Brand New + 128mb ram+JJOS again under €500

OR

A lot to take in there I think we talk value for money I know go for the 8000 right?
What about the function and portability of the 1000? could just hold out for a XL if i miss out on any of the above

I dont want to rush it but at the same time want to get my hands on some gear

the 1000 is a slick machine, but the physical build quality is worse then all the previously mentioned machines... however it will hold up alright for a good while before you need to re-solder on new tact switched and stuff.

also the jjos is pretty nice...

if you grab that one make sure you got the new pads and not the old style pads or else that will add almost 200 extra bucks to the price some time down the road.


I would still go for that MV though as long as everything works on it. also, if you need to pay for shipping, tell the dude to stuff the monitor in his arse.

The MV is about 30mins from my house so there wont be any shipping!

Was on eBay last night. Missed out on two 2000's. Had a budget of €500 one custom one went for over €560 in the end so I was a little disappointed. The other one I am gutted about. The 2000 was shop new with 8 output, 32mb, fx board. The seller said it was for local pickup but i contacted him and he agreed to post when i went to click BUY NOW it was gone by seconds!! It was only €320.

I will keep a check on eBay over the weekend but if nothing come up ill get the MV. Im dying to get my hands on something now because I have a original composition competition to prepare for and thats in 2 weeks.

2 weeks will be rough to learn a machine and make some heat on it...

oh, I noticed you are mentioning 2000, and not the 2000xl. dont even bother with the regular 2000 for 500 euros... they arent worth that much. for the 2000xl... 500 euros is pushing it, the classic 2000 aint worth it.

well ive already got a loan of a 1000 and been preparing on that. Have read the 2000 manual and watch a load of vids on it, so im confident that if i had a weekend with the new machine ill be ok, it wont be anything special but at least ill have some idea. Ill be using other gear too and the mp wont be the main instrument this time. Ya your right about the price if nothing comes up over the weekend ill wait theres no point rushing a purchase just for the sake of getting one fast. 2000xl is very expensive here cheapest one ive seen is 550 so i might yet look towards the US or Canada

even if the xl costs more, it is worth it if you are going down the 2000 series road.

the xl has many features not on the 2000 that make it the better purchase this day and age...

for example:

-the xl can read folders on a zip disk or cf card.. or what ever, while the 2000 classic can not
-the xl has an IDE port on the motherboard which allows for a card reader or zip drive to be installed at a reasonable price
-the xl has separate buttons for changing pad banks which is sweet for on the fly work... plus less wear and tear on one single button doing 4 times the work
-time stretching, as primitive as it is.... it has it and I dont think the classic does though i may be wrong
-autochopping, again I only think the classic doesn't have it, not that it is important to me but some people really love this feature. personally I find manual chopping to be the best but to each they own.
-DONT NEED to boot off the boot disk because the xl has a chip with the OS installed on it inside the machine...

Been months since I last posted due to certain circumstances. In the end I never managed to get want I originally posted about but now I have the chance.

Tomorrow I am going to look at a XL. The seller says its in perfect condition and wants €300 for it.

Specs:

Akai MPC 2000XL
32 mb RAM
ZIP DRIVE
USB ZIP DRIVE
No lines or dead pixels

Is this a decent deal?
