Yeah a sampler is really a good complement to the mpc. Try an old school 12 bit sampler like the akai s950, or a yamaha (can't remember the model but there's a post about that) to get a nice crunchy sound on drums The mpc sampler isn't too good, too clear and too cold. I've been told that emus are good too, very warm sounds.

Yamaha tx16w with Typhoon 2000 os upgrade. Got one...it's very organic/crunchy/warm. Good filters.

Anyone know how to upgrade memory on this piece?

I'd say get some effects before you get another sampler. some distortion does great things to beats, as does compression.

the Yamaha TX16w is so sweet! I wish the Mpc would have some filters like the yamaha's.

And while we're on the subject E.A., do you know of an easy/fast way to layer sounds with the TX? Layering sounds with the mpc is really fast, but it doesn't work with midi:(

Yeah...I've seen that page. I don't think I'm gonna f*ck with all that. (having to sodder a ram chip and then possibly shorting out the TX board inside). I think this company called Mutec sells memory for it but they're out of Germany or something and seem to be like a pain to get a hold of.

In terms of layering sounds in the TX...what I would do is assign the two samples/waves to the same voice and then assign that voice to it's own performance...you then just assign that performance to it's own midi channel (you probably got an idea of all this though). There's also a portion in the wave edit screen of Typhoon that I think is meant for layering (at work right now-can't remember it).

The only thing I don't like about the TX is the trim/loop section. I find myself using cool edit pro after sampling to trim the samples. It's a pain having to convert .aiff to .wav back to .aiff and doing floppy transfers.

mpc+tx=sickening things.

Yeah, i think mutec sells just about evry kind of memory for samplers. Changes are they will have it.

Why do you have to change from wav. to Aiff. ? I just keep everything in Aiff. all the time. Does cooledit not support Aiff? If so, try Wavelab.

I have an MPC, Triton, DJ mixer (Vestax 05) and a CD recorder. I want to learn how to mix because my set-up is pretty ghetto right now. I come straight from the Vestax into a SONY CD-Recorder to make my beat CD's for people to hear.

I know I need more equipment so this is what the post is all about. If I get an S950, does the MPC become just a MIDI controller for the S950?

Do the 8 outs on the S950 serve the same function as the MPC's 8 outs (if you have it installed)? And would I need to get a mixing board like the Mackie 1604 or does PROTOOLS serve as a mixing console also?

Will someone please explain the gear I should get so I can start professionally mixing my tracks? People like the beats I have...So I want to start selling them but if I do...I want it to sound as good as possible so thats why I am contemplating all these options.

I was thinking about getting a G4 w/ PROTOOLS but is that all I need, along with the 8 outs on the MPC? Or should get a professional sampler (S950) also with this set-up? Is a mixing board necessary if you have PROTOOLS?

I appreciate any input on this subject, I am new to the whole mixdown process and where to start. I know the MPC and TRITON very well but I feel like I am missing out on the whole recording/tracking out process. Thank you.
