Goodbye MPC =(

Just to slightly embellish what you were saying... Since I started playing with plugins in the late 90s, the quality difference across the board (synths, DAWs, processing) has increased ten fold, but making decent tunes isn't even 1% easier than before the technology was there.

There's just a lot of aspects that are way more convenient now.

Why not use your DAW and spent a few hours a week just learning your 4000? I came from DAW to the 5000 and now I have the best of both worlds

You make hard decissions, which is a good quality in making music(keeping that amazing sound or loop even though it's not working in the track or tweaking stuff to death), but why ditch the 4000 right now? You may want to use it next week .

I have Reason and I've tried Ableton and Cubase. I like Reaper the best. Plus I can just rewire reason right into Reaper. And I have lots of VSTs so Reason is out of the question unless I run it rewired.

ok, so i want to see your guys reaper workflows and how you pull off complete beats with reaper.

ive made like 2 beats with reaper and although there were somethings i liked..........there were some things I also couldn't stand, but maybe I'm just not on same page as the rest of you with reaper.

lets say you got a drum loop, and song sample from vinyl.....i'd like to see you make a beat by chopping up drum loop, chopping sample, laying down your own groove, pitching up the samples, and finding the key and dropping in bassline to your chops......................

I record my sample into Reaper. Chop up the main parts I'm going to use(Pressing "S" splits the file). Right click --> render as new take and it makes wav files of your chops and saves them to the folder where u saved your beat. Open up battery and load the chops and then fine tune all my chops. After I do this I usually open up FL Studio and find some drums and layer them. You can even chop and layer your drums in Reaper and then just right click and render as new file. Then Ill just open up another instance of Battery and just drag all of my drum chops from FL studio into Battery. Then once I have my sampled chopped up and my drums loaded up Ill make the beat. Go into the piano roll editor and move around my drums\sample as neccessary and then do the synths, bassline, etc... It may sound like too much for you but this is what works for me. I just made that first beat in my signature like a half hour ago using this method. Actually all of the beats in my signature were made using this method.

been there done that, just to realize mpc hunger never goes away......you may be good with just software for a minute...but having mpc at your side for that different style of beat making is truly refreshing...only mpc no matter how many times you hit it, never gets old...

i was glad to get rid off my 2500 and the past year unlocking Ableton has been way more rewarding than any MPC

reaper is a very solid program, i use it to record my vocals and for most all of my final mixdowns. However i wouldnt go as far to say i can live without my mpc because reaper is not a end all be all kind of daw.

have you considered hooking your mpc up with reaper and running it via "MTC" in reaper? you could prolly get a nice little hybrid digital/analog setup going if you mess around with it a bit.

i think its cool that reaper 4 just dropped but id much rather flip a beat on my mpc or maschine. For beats there are just some daws/ pieces of gear that are more fluid with there workflow then others.

without maschine or the mpc i fear reaper would feel a bit clunky for me if i was to use it for making beats. guess since youve owned every mpc you know what limitations you may be faced with. whatever works for you...

btw.....i didnt understand why you used fl studio during your beat making process for the drums? wouldnt it have just been easier to load the oneshots/ preview them in battery via reaper?

closing down reaper.. then opening fl studio.. just to export the files back into reaper again.. sounded a little propellerhead reason/ recycle ish to me.

^ I was thinking that too... but he probably just previewed them from the fl studio browser and sampled that as you can scroll through many sounds quickly auditioning them along the way...

For the benefit of anyone who's jumped into this thread, a little context...

Dude bought a 4000 on Monday and after posting desperately in the 4000 forum switched to Reaper on Friday.

didn't understand either. why not just use one or the other....seems like more work.
