The SSL mixer in Reason/Record is faithfully modeled after the SSL 9000k console and you can definitely tell it's special the first time you mix on it. It's the best mixer I've used in any DAW....hands down. Nice vid Kev,...thanks for sharing. :D

im starting to think im just gonna stick with reason

i've been waiting (and excited) to try record but 6 may b what im after

here's the main this i wish i could do -

record a sample, chop, and sequence all without really stopping... similar to JJos on 1k... i mean now i have to record my sample, chop in recycle, then open reason and start making beats

i used to add samples half way through making a beat, and doing that now just kills the workflow.... does this go away with reason record?

This is one thing that a lot of people are requesting from Propellerhead- the ability to create Rex files within Reason/Record for those that own Recycle but it doesn't seem that will change in version 6. In Reason 6 you'll have to record the sample to an audio track, bounce the sample to disk (your hard drive), open Recycle and chop sample, save the sample after chopping it and open Dr. Octo Rex to use your sample. This is how it's done in Reason/Record. Unfortunately this is the one area of the Propellerhead software that still requires more effort that it should. Hopefully we'll see them blend Recycle with Reason just like they did with Reason and Record.....Reason 6 is basically Reason, Record and 3 new devices along with minor tweeks and minor workflow improvements.

they need to give users a way to keep spending their hard earned money.
anyway, looks pretty cool. thx for the vid OP

that will be awesome when than happens... especially if you can just "record" into the recycle chopper or whatever

i just miss being able to have a record spinning.... hear a sample spinit back, record it.. chop it up, and add it to the song i was working on.. in like 60 seconds or whatever

I sure hope so. One thing I do know is that if they do this they'll do it right.

You'll be able to do this in Reason 6 because just like Reason/Record, Reason 6 will have audio tracks. So you have an audio track with you're TT playing that you can hear in realtime with the rest of your music. :D

ok dope! but then how about trimming the start/endpoint of the sample? i never used Record.

i understand not being able to create REX files but it would be AWESOME to be able to create one shots on the fly.. IE - record, adjust start and end point, and tune - without stopping the beat???

Reason 6 records audio so you just bounce the audio clip to a new sample (this option is under file) once you do this the new sample is available in the editor (F8). You can adjust the start and end points in the editor and then crop the sample all in Reason on the fly so you don't have to export and import from your hard drive... then use that sample in any device. Also you can set the start and end point of the audio clips before you bounce it to a new sample. All the sample in you project are accessible from the F8 menu and can be duplicated and edited in the F8 window.

Oh and the OP kev west has a great tutorial on chopping samples in Reason 5 that I hadn't even considered. His method of slicing up a sample is done all within the F8 window's editor. Check it out... The audio is kind of hard to hear at times but you'll get the just of what he's doing just by watching the vid. :D

chopping samples in record is a **** and not worth it if you have recycle, or a mpc. Don't get me wrong I love reason/record, but not for sampling, really its all about that ssl mixer and being able to customize my mastering and effects with multiple combinators full of racks

You can also chop up an audio clip using the razor tool... Highlight the chopped pieces and turn them all into samples in one click. Then access the individual samples in the F8 window for further editing.

"Sampling workflow in Reason"......This is the only issue i have with it. Recycle is ...OK, but having to open 1 program to record sample, open another to chop, and then open another to load up and play is indeed a creativity killer. And i have tons of mp3s so i have to add a step (file converting) to this already tedious process. lol This probably all stems from the fact that I have been spoiled rotten using JJOS NDC chopping. With this I have grown accustomed to playing my samples as i chop. This has become a major part of my workflow. The live sampling is cool if u chop in a more classic way (kev brown 2000xl)...for now soundforge works best. the ssl mixer is def a nice add on.
