Goodbye MPC =(

I wonder what made the OP so compelled to switch?

a mpc 4000 is a pretty in depth piece of equipment to tackle in a few days....only to kick it to the curb for something else.

i dont think i could consider getting rid of any gear i own for reaper.... and vice-versa.


@ OP, google "syncing reaper and mpc with MTC." copping a mpd seems redundant...you know mpcs can be used as midi controllers aswell right?...use the 4k!!!

I love my mpc, won't switch up for the world! With that said tho, who gives a sh*t about a choice another man makes on how he wants to get down? I think some of y'all cats a lil lame for going in on duke for his own personal choice. It doesn't affect any one of us..

And by the way I still do use the 4000 as a controller... I can use the 4000 just fine. I compared the 4000 vs. Reaper and Reaper came out on top. I know how to use every feature on the 4000. But I can bang out 3 beats in reaper in the time it takes me to make 1 in the MPC... and I've used the 3000 for like 3-4 years now.

and by the way what exactly is a "genuine feel"??? Just because u use hardware means you get a genuine feel gimme a break..

If thats the case why have alot of the great producer switched from MPC or other hardware to software hmm??
Illmind, Just Blaze, Needlz just to name a few... Nottz & Hi-Tek are both using Maschine now. Not to mention J Dilla used strictly PT to make beats towards the end of his run...

and from what I've read, Statik Selektah is strictly using Protools for his beats..

for me it's HELLO ASR 10! I just got one in great condition for get this, $100! I need to upgrade the memory to 16mb (LoL, that just sounds funny this day in age) and it has no scsi, but still, it's in immaculate condition! It must be my birthday or something, ish like this NEVER happens to me. I'm hype!

yeah and Statik does use PT.. He just drags and drops his drums in and uses the mouse. I could never do that. I need to play the beat with my hands or I feel like Im cheating lol. Lots of guys do this tho, M-Phazes, 14KT, Apollo Brown, Statik, Oddisee lots of others too... You can really get your drum swinging nice if you mouse them in tho. Ill move around the drums a little bit after I play them but these guys do all their programming with the mouse.

Yawn, you didn't even know you could use a 4k as a controller until it was mentioned on this thread, so I don't think you know much about gear. Other than that I could care less what anyone uses, just do you, and take the fact that Clint sonned you proper.

yeah I have actually been using my 4k as a controller this whole time. Im just selling because I could use the extra cash after I get an MPD. Im sorry I even started this thread I should of known I was going to get ganged up on.. I guess I forgot this is the "MPC" forums..

for me to g back to the MPC is like going from the PS3 to an atari VCS 2600 ,they are total wank

they are just easy for braindead to us

i use what for me currently is the best of both worlds.. i use the mpc to quickly lay down ideas, i can very quickly make beats on it, from simple grooves to intricate stuff, far quicker than i would be able to do on a computer, simply because it is so hands on, and all in realtime.. then i use cubase to multitrack and record it all for easy overview of the track as a whole, where it is also quick and easy to process things if needed, it is quick and easy to cut and paste and move things around, from tiny parts to bigger sections, aswell as easy editing of mistakes that may have happened when recording.. and because of this i never use songmode on the mpc any longer, i just do live sequencing and go on feeling, and no big deal if i accidentally mess up something, as it is then easy to fix in cubase, if i were to do that on the mpc, it suddenly breaks the flow because of having to sit and jump in menues and set things up in songmode.. and if i tried to do it all in the computer it would also completely break the flow as it is not as hands on as the mpc, and things that you might need to sit and set up and program to do intricate things can simply be played on the mpc... and its the realtime that does it for me, no need to sit and wait for something to loop on a grid or audio lane to get an idea if the groove is good or not, i hear it as soon as i touch and play the pads.. if not good, then play it differently and just try to lead yourself there.. if good, then hit record and proceed to make variations, if the flow is good, then i can start and record around 3 tracks each session.. but that is when pushing myself a bit, and depends on if i have time or not

going for speed and good flow is also good as you get more tracks out of it this way, and when you have made a few, it also makes it easier to more clearly see what is worth continuing on and you can easier stop yourself from wasting time trying to save or fix something that maybe wasnt meant to be in its current form.. the rest of the ideas might be able to be recycled.. maybe you play keyboard? then maybe just save the drums for later and play some keys on top of them.. this is also quick and can allow a very good flow... and if you are good with the keyboard then it doesnt necessarily have to take longer to make a track than it takes to listen to it whilst recording
