here is a nice tip

say you have 2 instruments in the same freq range

ie ... a kickdrum and bass or 2 synths and they are clashing

add a autofilter to the channel turn it into a group with a hi and lo setting on the freq on each group.

copy the auto filter to the conflicting instrument channel and and add a compressor to the LO group

then pick sidechain and choose the HI from the other channel.

set the compressor to infinite ratio and turn the threshold dow to 16 db

moderate release and fast attcack and they should both play nicely

if you get pops and clicks set the lookahead to 10ms

Pulsing basslines

Note you bassnotes have to run parrerel with the kick and snare

write a bassline ,then after you have proccessed it with eq and compression

add the multiband compressor

turn it into 3 groups

lo , mid ,hi

solo each channel to the corect frequencys you have chosen.

lo =.add a compressor sidechained to the kick until the lo freq pump with

infinite ratio ,threshold around 16db ,fast attack and alter the release to get desired pump.

MID = add a compressor with a fast attack to accenuate the tone and a Gate following side chained to the snare ,set the release hold and attack so it sounds nice everytime the snare hits

HI ......Either add a simple delay ,ping pong delay or filter delay until you get a desired rhythm of high sparklin frequencys.

this sound sound realy brilliant once you get used to it

Sidechaining really stepped my mixing game up. I never really used it but I actually just started experimenting with it after getting some tips online and I gotta say it definitely works great if you know what you're doing. I usually make my bass duck my kick or synth duck the kick and it really sounds great if you know how to pull it off.. J Dilla was a master at this technique..

surgical eq'in is real nice .you basically do the steepest q curve an dincrease the volume and slowly move the freq band until you hear noises like whistle and other shit then you shelve the band and totally cleans up the sound ,real easy but realy effective esp on kicks and snares

Auto filter basic stuff

Open a synth and turn all the filters and osc's off and just mess with the noise osc

i like to use the pink noise ,make sure all the settings are at full

mute the synth channel and draw in a note ,i use a C for as long as you want the sweep to be

then whichever audio channel you wanna **** with add the auto filter

click the sidechain option and pick the synth then turn the envelope all the way clockwise

fast attack and moderate release ,play the track back untl u get a nice sound

then you get glitches by sync the lfo ,square wave is nice but their are noise waveform that you can get ace glitches with

using the Phase and off set .

A BEAT REPEAT TIP...this is some awesome stuff especially ace on vocals and pads

draw a kick drum in on the first beat leave the other 3 blank

add the beat repeat to the channel .Use the settings to get the pattern that best suits the material

listen to the kick drum ,when you happy mute the kick.

then on the audio channel place the compressor

use the first compressor setting and a fast lookahead to stop pops and clicks

u want threshold to 16db release at about 60-90 and a slow attack

sidechain the compressor to the beat repeat kick and listen to how the channel is being manipulated

then for some more madness apply the ping pong delay ....3/5 and wet about 33% works for me

you should get a pulsing wave like effect which is realy ace for movement

I was just messing with this feature last night... didn't get too much into it as I had to keep the volume on the laptop low.... but I'll def check it out more.
