i agree on the 3 program sample chopping.... def sucks. nowdays you dont HAVE to use 3 steps, but usually 2 if u wanted indepth chopping etc (i guess, right Upright?)

but nothing beats jjos chopping for me yet

a record player and jjos on the 1k (or i'd assume 2500) is soo nice... i loved my workflow with that...

reason isn't really the same, but i use some of the same tricks... and do some things different

for example, in order to get around the creativity workflow killer (3 program chops) i do the steps at different times, sometimes different days.. when i do it in one sitting i often take a 10-15 break, chillin out and smoke herb before opening reason and starting the beat

That's pretty much all it takes for me....I can't see someone needing to open 3 programs to chop something up....that's just crazy IMO.

But I wanna ask you about the JJOS and what parts about the way it chops do you miss?...I never got to try the full JJOS on my 2500 before I sold it. I was on the fence about going with the big JJOS for my 2500 but I just figured Reason gave me more options.

One good thing about Recycle is- if you're working in Octo Rex and you get to a slice and you decide that it's chopped wrong or you ever need to move a slice or delete a slice you just open up Recycle and move, delete, add...etc. and the changes you made are instantly reflected in the Octo Rex the next time you open your project. You don't have to re-chop the whole sample again. This doesn't happen a lot but when you need to adjust the way you chopped something it's good to be able to do it.

well - Recycle as a sample editing device is more expansive and has more features than the jjos, but i never edit the actual SOUND of the sample when its just in Recylce. so i basically open recycle just to "click" where i want my chops..

with jjos i can highlight 4 bars - slice into 16 pieces, quickly edit each chop while hitting a pad and spinning the data wheel, exporting to a pgm.. and you can do that at any point during a beat.. its just so much more fluid than reason when it comes to sampling. but the mpc is a sampler and reason is NOT... so im NOT dissing reason, thats for sure.. i love reason.. and reasons samplers are nice

Ok,....cool,... I see how you'd use the Mpc w/JJOS and I totally see where you're coming from. No doubt having to export to Recycle is a work flow killer. Hopefully Recycle integration happens soon.

lol for me it is 3 programs if i want to use OctoRex. 1)record sample in Soundforge and truncate or loop 2)open recycle and chop 3)open reason and get to work. I think im either gonna just stay in reason and record live different pieces a la kev brown or just do all chopping in soundeforge and load samples in nnxt. again i know its not impossible or the worst thing ever but hey...... jjos has spoiled me lol. I used to look at reason (back in 2.5 days) as just synth sounds. As a noob i didnt see its potential. Its streamlined, (besides sampling lol) and the only ceiling is ur imagination. Ive been stacking sounds in combinator and messing with automation and the cv stuff. Dope program and teaming it up with ableton or reaper.....fun times indeed.

whats really pissing me off in record is looping audio clips....EXAMPLE if i record a drum loop i made in the mpc for 8 bars, i cant copy and paste it for another 64 bars because every time it gets to the next 8 bar loop theres a "pop" where the clips meet. the tempo's are matching but they just "pop" or "Crack" between each **** loop. I wanna midi sync the mpc to record, but record Doesn't recognize the mpc's record button in MMC, only the bar locators, stop and play...its like that for all mpc models....hell i could do this with acid, cubase, reaper....but not record, and thats where propellerhead is slipping. And no, i'm not gonna resample to record, i have the best sampling engine ever made for a reason i just wanna track out each track to its own channel and loop some of them. hell even if i record my live guitar and wanna clip a part and loop it, it still pops when the loop points meet and I gotta adjust them, its not my timing cause I've tested in other daws and has no problems with the same piece of audio at the same tempo

Ah ok...it sounds like the clip may be just a little bit off size compared to the recorded audio (i.e the end of the sample is being cut off by the end of the clip) There's two quick ways you can fix this. zoom all the way in and make sure the the clip ends at a zero crossing of the waveform... The zero crossing is where the wave form is at the neutral position mean not up or down... Or you can zoom in and use the line that's drawn across the clip to make a little fade out. Ultimately you should be able to get the clip the right size at the front and end so that it would loop like it did in the mpc... The other methods I mentioned above are just "quick" fixes. Hope this helps bro :D

Oh don't forget to turn snap off when you adjust the clip

see I'm aware of fixing it that way, but when I'm tracking 8-32 tracks, I shouldn't hafta to do that, if it loops perfect in the mpc then it should in the daw, like I said, dont have this issue in any other DAWS so although I lover reason, its dead to me, I run mainly hardware and I'm just gonna get a studio live and PT 9...to me workflow is everything
