system resources are an issue. i am running 2 gb ram right now and i think it's not enough. the system is kind of unstable but more testing is needed.

it's possible that i'll have to offload the voice recognition software to my laptop if it's too much to do it all on one machine.

just ordered 4 gb ram so hopefully i'll be better off

looks like thats a 128 mb card... it might help if you disable some of the pretty stuff win7 does.

your cpu is pretty strong, cant see any reason why you'd be having these problems. what does the cpu/ram usage look like when you're running into issues?

also..what kind of instability are you seeing?

really more testing is necessary, this could be another issue. i've definitely changed a lot of variables in my setup.

instability - more in playback than anything else, a kind of digital distortion/sample rate reduction. need to try different settings on my soundcard. using a 2nd machine specifically for voice control is a last ditch effort and i have several things to try before committing to that.

the first thing i did in win7 was try to make it look as much like xp as possible...and when i say that i mean win98 because i made xp look as much like win98 as possible.

i don't need my computer to sparkle at me, i need it to do its effin job haha

this has gone well
over the weekend i squashed a dozen issues i was having with this setup
lots of crap between win 64, my video card, sws extensions, and glovepie freezing
the macros are running great, the mpc is working harder than it ever worked...
however when the voice recognition is on, the computer is noticeably working a LOT harder and can't handle as many vstis, etc.

after i get the RAM i ordered i will pop it in and see if it behaves better
otherwise i'm dropping win7 64 bit on my laptop and using that for VR (sending MIDI either over my network or a regular old usb > midi cable).

it's still not at the point where it's more work than it's ultimately worth, but it's getting there. when it works/before it bogs down the system, it's absolutely awesome though, so the external dedicated VR machine might be worth it.

beatbox midi - haha that's old news friend, i did that in 2009.
reaper, 3 tracks, 3 eqs isolating different frequencies of your drum hits, and 3 audio-midi triggers.
latency was tiny, but that depends on your system.

i've decided to offload VR to my laptop machine...
