I never really looked into amazon. we have the dot CA one here... and last time I checked.... it sucked. The USA one had gear and all that, but the CA one seemed to mainly have books and what have you.

the zoom and tascam portable recorders look really good.
i'm still using a sony DAT machine that my girlfriends found in a draw. works well - i really like the compression/limiter or whatever it is, that it has. but it chews through the batteries.

the battery duration is a problem for the zoom h4n also
but if you have a rechargeable batteries pack it could be useful
my rechargeable batteries last for circa 1 hour of recording
but the h4n comes with an ac adaptor
i'm using it as a In/Out interface with my laptop via usb so i don't need the batteries
don't know if it's a good idea to cop a used h4n, but of course it depends on the conditions

I'm using a Boss Micro BR: portable, great quality/small footprint. You can have one of them for less than 200 bucks, and it's a full featured 4tracks recorder with integrated (BOSS) multiFX...

i've heard complaints of that... but didnt know what to make of it... the classic h4 gets at least 4 hours on two AA batteries.

maybe my rechargeable batteries are a bit old...

So today I tested my Olympus Digital Recorder at school. I plugged the receiver straight to the 1/8" mic input and recorded.

It sounded pretty damn good so with that being said I purchased a Tascam DR-05 on eBay. Paid $80 with shipping and no tax brand new.

I wanted something better and that recorded in a format recognizable by my 2500. It makes it much easier that it records in 16 bit wav where as my Olympus recorder does it in wma.

The reviews for it sounded great so I'm just waiting on my purchase to arrive now.

nicely done. WMA is the standard for the olympus one? how odd... hopefully that one will let you set the quality up to 16 bit at least so conversion is remotely possible without too much loss of quality.

Really? That sounds like it would be crappy quality. Why not just use the record in? The iPhone can be used as in input.

If i were you, I'd take a camera too. I'd just take pics of all the albums you sampled, that way, you got all the info in the picture incase you gotta go back, **** up, or whatever.

Yea fam I been doing that. I've actually had to go back to re-sample stuff. Snapping shots of the album is also good to later gain more Knowledge on the artist and possibly go digging for their other work.

exactly. i find that the knowledge is sometimes more important, because alot of times, ill go diggin, I cant afford to drop alot of quid on a record, but if I remember the record, I might have a friend who has it, find it online, etc. or use that info to look up and research similar or related artists...you know whats up! peace.

in my experience those rechargeable AA and AAA batteries just don't last as long as normal.

$80? i'm getting one. i've been wasting my life sitting around at friends' places when i should have been sampling their synths, drum machines and records.
