mpc4000 freezes/refuses to load anything with ".wav"???

As strange as this may sound, this is what my mpc started doing(for no apparent reason). I have a couple hundred beats/projects saved on the harddrive and have never experienced a problem. Here is what exactly happened:

I was working on a beat, had gotten a nice sequence down, it was playing, then all of the sudden the samples just get crazy distorted to the point where it's just static almost. I save the project, reboot the machine, and then it would load the patterns, then get to the chopped samples which are named "sample.wav", etc. It just sits there. One time it froze. I tried it on other projects(to load them) and it does the exact same thing now too. Any ideas on what I could do? I don't know if it's a hardware or software problem. When I audition the samples on my other projects, they play back perfectly fine. It's only when I go to load does it hang up. ANY help would be appreciated.

Just tried a jump drive with a folder of wav samples on it....same thing, it refuses to load them as well. I guess at least the hdd didnt crash(brand new). Maybe reflagging the OS would work?

Well now it loads fine...but it is still doing the weird clipping/very fast repeat of the samples(like 32d notes fast). It "auditions" the samples fine in thee folder, but once loaded they will not play correctly

Ram must have gotten loose. I took it out and blew cOmpressed air in the slot, re installed and I'm back in business.

Glad to hear you sorted it out - sounded like a bad problem!

It's possible that there could have been a slight amount of oxidisation on the RAM contacts and the process of taking it out and putting it back in might have cleaned the contacts off.

Good thread, definitely something for people to watch out for.
