Does anyone have any Lou Reed?I don't need it or anything but,i was just listenin' and heard"Take a Walk on the Wild Side."The same one Tribe used for "Can i kick it."And it was just odd how little Ali Shaheed did to it.

ya i was listening to tribe yesterday and was thinking the same thing, but that was an earlier time in this culture.

Yeah no doubt,i wasn't knockin him or nothin'.I was just shocked when i heard it cause it was like a 8 or 9 sec. loop.I was just surprised he didn't chop it up more.

Didn't need to in those days, that whole era was about dope loops.

some of my favorite tracks of all time are just looped...

dont get me wrong, chopping the hell outta something takes more effort and time... but in the end its all about what sounds good... if its already hot rock it... if not chop it... im an advocate of simplicity myself... its cool to get a bit technical with it, but NEVER forget the basics...

its a double sided coin though...sometimes producers who loop ALL THE TIME, get mad props for something that took a minute to make, but only producers themselves could tell you that. the average fan thinks this guy is sitting in his basement playing violins and sht... look at dooms productions..yea they are nice loops, but you got mad kids on his nuts saying that hes an amazing beatmaker. i dont get it sometimes...like yo, i could have made that same beat, in about 5 minutes, and half the time i have the albums hes sampling from, so....whats the deal??? i myself have looped tracks, so i cant say that entirely...but i can say, i chop shit up too, at least let me hear a beat of yours where you TRIED to flip the script you know? yea its about what sounds good, but let me hear you flip something once in awhile...instead of looping joe thomas intros 100% of the time. let me hear some of that originality/creativity

but yo im not hating on doom at all...hes looped some shit that people wouldnt have thought to in the first place (cartoon themes, sht from movies)- and if you loop obscure beats, not found on your average soul LP..then thats a little different i think.. but man, id really like to hear him chop a beat up once in awhile..BALANCE

Like a Mpc cause there is only like 8 polyphony or 16 so
If you trigger 4 samples that made up 1 you are using up 4 polyphony
Then you use a hihat 1 polyphony or 2 depending on how you programmin
then kick on epoly snare one poly and maybe a tom one poly...
Now I use up 8 poly and my sampler is cutting off random pads.,,,...

Another thing is that Doom gets so much props cause he has an album in stores every 2 weeks thise guy has not stopped putting out vol.s

The list goes on, but if you yourself flooded a markett then you should have atleast a few frat boys on your jock thinking the nice sounding beats are god like...Its a suppply and demand thing...
U flood the markeet people will like and hate you..
U put one album out it goes good.,. U become legend status if u can maintain that same notority for each other dope album after that..
So give a brotha props for trying to make us hate him or love him..

i gotta chop everything even if it is just looped to the beat. then it quantizes better. but straight loopin ish and adding drums is a lil beat. i mean dont u want to make music? instead of just jackin someones loops. i mean its cool if u got a loop then ur drums bass percus and harmonies are added in then u are part of the process. but cats that straight are loopin ish with all that in it, like the bassline, and they add a kick and a snare and claim it as theres, is a little lame. but its just my opinion. some cats are proud of there little creations so to each his own.

its unsatisfying to me when i make a beat w/ a loop in it. wheres the art/science/fun? yes, many of my favorite classics are looped up samples but this is hiphop. first rule of hiphop as i know it: NO BITITNG. be original, come together w/ some of your own style. find a great sample loop it and ill like it but chop that ill sample and you may have a beat that is at least more interesting. i just cant say all i want to about this yet...interesting topic here.

I used to chop beats in the S6000 and set the poly for the whole program to 1. Makes it nice and tight when the next beat kills the decay from the previous one. I did layer a lot of stuff though so I wouldn't have been able to make do with 8 note polyphony.

4. doom may use loops but listen to the way he's flipping his basslines nowadays ... its so fat and clear, his filtering skills are spot on, he's a nice digger and an even nicer producer, just trying to make his money while the iron's hot, cos everything fades away eventually.....

5. how can looping be gay... the last track i made had a huge rhodes sample chopped to bits and replayed over some drums i'd programmed and bass that i'd sampled from a different source
... in the back of the mix i looped a ringing bell sample from some modern jazz quartet ... its such a small part of the song but it really adds something special to the beat ... looping is sound.
