OK, this is probably something that has a really simple explanation  but does anyone else get distortion playing a 808 kick with a long decay time on their MPC?? The short kick is fine. I have tried a few different samples, as well as playing with the master level, filters, envelopes etc but without much joy.

These are from standard 808 sample kits etc. Anyone help?

do you have other sounds playing at the same time?
By rarara Fri Aug 26, 2011 1:12 pm
no, happens with just the kick. have used sample kits from the net as well as from the mpc2000 sample CD

Try to turn the velocity down to about 100 in step edit mode. That works on the mpc500

not tried that yet, though listening on the laptop (crappy speakers tho) it has a big crackle too.

so, does anyone have a 'clean' version they can share??

Try d16 Group's 808 VST emulation Nepheton, it's excellent. Because it's a VST, you can tweak your sound to exactly what you need.

you can really notice lower bitrates and general sampling errors on long 808 kicks.

sometimes sound like distortion.

Treat yourself to a real TR-808.

Samples don't do it justice. :D

So pricey though, plus having to deal with MIDI retrofitting. Still I know what you mean Clint, that an SP or 3000 is money well spent.

Anybody here ever consider Acidlab Miami? I'm always tempted.

just been looking at the wav on the laptop and its stereo, with L + R sounding OK individually, but not when combined. I used Switch to save as PCM format for use with the MPC and chose mono which seems to have caused a problem. bit more investigation needed.....
