Using internet for digging.

debating which medium a sample comes from has always been a pointless argument to me.....show me some music you made or gtfoh. cats be focusing/ devoting there energy towards the wrong things... put as much time into creating as you do debating and you might actually make some noise worth listening to.

Hip-Hop is all about making something out of nothing. For many, the option to spend $30 on a record just to sample just ain't there. If anyone is going to be a purist, then I expect them to not own any electronic equipment. How is it cheating to download an album, but it's not cheating if you buy a record, sample the producers creation with the sole purpose to make your own music. Really, sampling is cheating whether you purchased the album or not. Digging through crates doesn't justify anything.
Personally, I own thousands of records, but I also grab sounds off the internet. Many of your favorite producers e-dig and you love it. I'm not going to name drop, but I was introduced to digital diggin' (what he called it) by a well known producer a few years ago; my initial reaction was "this is wack!" A bad economy and light pockets changed my mind! If I could download my dinner I would never buy food!
Bottom line, do you. EVERYTHING about music is wack now. Most artists are not making money. Many are touring for FREE and returning home to keep their day jobs! You can make beats on an Ipod Touch. You can make music without knowing how to make music (Garageband), and you can acquire technically better gear than the MPC for free (Reason, FL, etc). I think there are many other aspects that are ruining the essence of Hip-Hop that are more important than downloading. Sure 1000 people may have downloaded the same album from the same blog, but a million people may have bought the same record that you purchased from record stores worldwide. To argue that one is better than the other is pointless.

But really...roxstar hit the nail on the head. I sample from a lot of different mediums, dvd's, vhs, tapes, vinyl, cds, mp3...I have yet to sample something off of youtube, but if I found something that made me shit my pants and no one had really done anything with it, why not? Because some guy had already taken the time to make a youtube video of it, and it's "known" already? Come onnnnnn... I could go out, buy that same damn record and make the same damn song, but there's no way I could help the fact that the joe schmoe on youtube put me onto it...know what I mean? No one in the end will know when they hear the final result.

man sample from wherever. example of what i've done in the past and actually a couple weeks ago

i heard a track i wanted to sample, looked the record up on ebay it was $15. im like well, i'll just go sample this track from youtube or .mp3/wav and i did. i liked the final mix, (even though it was mp3), but i what did though is once i heard the final track with chops, i decided to buy the record off ebay. i got it in the mail, ran it through my 303 and and "remade" the beat on my mpc.


95% of the people are not going to be able to tell if you got your samples from vinyl or youtube. hell prolly 100% of people dont give a sh1t where you got it.


maybe the only reason this debate is ever brought up is because the internet makes it so easy and FREE to get samples and music, and people that go against this are the people actually leaving the house and digging for these records and spending $$$$$ on the records, all the while old joe over here is getting free from youtube.

True...I'm sure a lot of the genuine heads don't ever download music just for listening either...

i'm downloading some drexciya records (flac format) in these days for listening only, not for sampling
i like digging in those dusty 45 crates for funk and soul joints
don't like buy records off ebay or similar shitt, i prefer to go out in the stores with my bike

you should try and score yourself a demonoid.me account... so many people in that community record their vinyl collections to .flac, .wav, and sometimes 320mp3 etc... and they upload them... sometimes you hear the needle drop and a bit of click n pop.

I prefer digging for Vinyl, but **** it, anyone can sample what they want, as long as the beat's tight idc.
And our technology is advanced enough to beef up mp3 samples or you just DL FLAC.

Idk if the question is so much about "where you sample from" as it is "where did that sample come from". E-diggin or whatever you want to call it has a little fatal flaw to it. It depends on a group of people actually going out and doing some real diggin, so everyone else can download that shit.

Besides that I just don't like terms like e-diggin... what the **** did you dig? the llink the blog? You just downloaded what someone else dug out, purchased, deemed worthy, recorded and uploaded. Just call it downloading instead

Sample from whatever source you want as long as it sounds good, that''s not really the point here either.
