Ableton Live roll call!!!!

I haven't used Ableton in a while, but maybe Google "Ableton MIDI Re-channelize". Unfortunately Live doesn't do it, and it leads to problems with VST's that have multi timbral features. Not sure that's your issue, but it sounds like it might be.

thanks, googled it, im not sure if i having the same problem, but basically let's say i bang out a 4 bar loop(i have an mpk lpk mini, pads and keys combo) so now i have my beat going on the drum rack track. i want to lay a bassline over the beat, so i create a midi track and drop an analog device(synth bass). i lay my bassline over the beat(using the keys on the mpk), now here's the thing, i want to play out my chopped samples that are in drum rack but drum rack stops receiving midi and i can't play my chops... it's probably something simple but i can't figure it out??? any ideas???

When you drop a new midi track live's default setting automatically arm the new one. Just make sure the little red dot on the bottom of the track you want to control is highlighted.

Rockin'Doublz, I think it's what Esquilo said, I was imagining your issue as more than complex than it is I think. In preferences make sure Exclusive is set to Solo, then you can arm the red rec dot on multiple tracks instead of only one (Live's default setting).

I started using Live this weekend after having it on my harddisk for two years. Tryed it for an hour but was too impatient to really sit down with it and learning it.

I had a really simple workflow. Just a TT and the MPC 2500. Sometimes used Reason as a soundmodule but that program never really got my juices flowing. Tracked out in Cubase, using the standard FX. Not a plug-in VST type of guy. So my use of FX in the beat creating stage was extremely poor.

Now I've come to this point where I really have to step my game up. Last week a friend of mine mixed my EP. He said that my sounds were a bit thin. Especially drums and bass. Also somebody else commented that he had expected my beats to be at a higher level.

I can work quite fast on the mp. Because of that I never wanted to try something else workflow and equipment-wise. That way I've been doing the same thing for the last couple of years while I still have a lot of room to grow, which I actually didn't do the last couple of years.

So this weekend I decided I needed to change something, add something to my set-up. Only the MP is very cool for making quick bedroom hiphop for the purists. But not the type of beats to pay the bills. (at least in my situation)

Since I opened Live and got down with the basic things I've been as creative as ever! Now I feel limitless.

Like I still love the sound of the s950. But that thing is just not practical anymore. Too tedious if you want to do more complex stuff. And sampling back and forth between the mp and S950 is useless for several reasons, so it slowly disappeared out of my daily set-up.

Now I sample all my stuff into the S950, shaping samples already from there. Then record it straight into an audio clip in Live. If I would work with the S950 I had to track out to the pc anyway, so recordig those files directly into Live saves me some time while having pc flexibility to tweak my samples. So I start with a sample that sounds better to me, and I can easily make my drums to bang harder and the bass to humm deeper.
S950 sound + DAW flexibility + MPC sequencing= perfect set-up for me!!!

I still sequence with the mp. But I think I will sequence my next beat with Live. Downloading that e-book with the ableton/mpc turtorial first thing when I get home.

I got a copy of ableton with the focusrite interface i bought a few months back.

I've been a Logic Pro head for many years now, but I know i need to get into Ableton.
I used it a little when i was doing my degree, but you it's hard to open it up now when I can work so much quicker in logic. I need to take the time to learn... might have to read this thread from start to finish later on and see what i can get going.

I need some help setting up sync with ableton Live 9 Suite, i want mpc as slave so that when i start recording with ableton the mpc starts playing a sequence. Thanks fam

@DJDZ - I run a setup like that but on Logic 9. I have LP9 sending "MTC" and "MMC" messages to the MPC. Keeps everything nice and tight. Check to see if Live has options for those two things and then play around. If you don't know what they are then go and do a lil' digging on Google. I'm 100% sure that Live and your MPC can communicate how ya want! Trial & error and all that sh*t...

I've had Live 8 on my machine for a while now but I seriously can't wrap my f*cking head around it. It is the first & only DAW that has ever melted my face. Part of me thinks that I'M making it a lot more complex than need-be though... damn you, self.

Dude i totally hear you and maybe i can learn some logic insight from you. Im currently using lp9 but i will hit ya up on tht in another thread. I will dabble around with live 9 and see if anything breaks thru for me., I agree this sw seems really technical compared to lp9, no fanboy ish...just being honest. Some one please chime in if you can help

different strokes for different folks, I find live to be the simplest and closest thing to mpc like experience. but I've only tried logic and cubase

went from reason to live 9 suite a while back. I can't imagine doing what I do in reason... Once you get it down the workflow is so fast.
