Of course it is possible to make beats without an audio interface we all know that so there is no need to state the bloody obvious. The guy is building a 'Home Studio' something that will inevitably grow as he develops his skills.

He may not need it now, but he will pretty soon if he's serious about his music and studio. A few hardware synths or FX units and bingo...

You put up a link to Tweakheadz, what does he recommend huh?

"All rigs contain...an audio i/o system (audio interface or soundcard, or mixer)"

Show us some reputable music production sites that advise newbies not to buy an audio interface...

How is dude gonna exploit his eight outs without an interface?

How is dude gonna incorporate external hardware without an interface?

If resampling is the way to go, why do 99% of us still have an audio interface?

When you dish out advice to people think not only about today, but consider the future.

He's new to this, don't confuse the guy by encouraging him to be like you.

I think you should just learn how to use the MPC 2500 first,b4 you even get into audio and recording into logic.trying to learn all this stuff at once can be discouraging!

I see both sides....I never used an audio interface and am kinda glad 'cause I was able to focus on the MPC. Now that I have a decent audio interface I can't ever imagine living without it.

More importantly...I don't wipe my ass and I recommend that you don't either!

Vague too. Anything labelled 'audio interface' USB, Firewire, PCI/e is gonna be able to handle 16 and 24 bit, from a $25 SoundBlaster to a $2000 RME.

But seriously, whats all this 'I think you should learn the MPC first' about? Why?

Dude is "building a home studio". Yes he has a 2500 to work with but he also has an iMac and Logic Pro 8 with a midi keyboard. Not to mention a microphone and a mixer.

He needs an audio interface and some monitors, what he decides to learn to use first is up to him. He may choose to learn a bit of Logic first and see whether music production is seriously for him.

He asked which interface was compatible with a Mac, so are there any suggestions?

Get over the 'you can do without an interface' nonsense and just assume he wants to build a studio.

@OP what would be your budget for an interface?

I think it was pretty obvious the OP was considering another piece of gear without understanding why it was needed. He admitted not knowing how to even hook any of his current gear up. This suggests he's in too deep...and could benefit from learning the individual components before trying to string them altogether.

I'm not saying you're wrong....I find an audio interface essential now. But I got along without one for a long time, and only purchased one once I realized the need.

Man... great posts! See the person I got most of the equipment is currently in the armed forces overseas, so I can't contact him for info. But I have been using both the MP and Logic for over a year, but just not in my own home. So nowI have all the equip I wanted to hook it up and start a recording studio in my house. I understand I have been blessed with pretty everything I need to produce complete tracks. I even have a usb to midi cable and presonus (just found in a box in storage) and get this.. a 500GB hard drive with wav sounds and samples. He pretty much left with everything to roll with ... when we used to hang out I would go over to his spot and bang out beats on the MP and tinker with Logic as well. Never knew it would all be passed on to me. So everyone's input is helping me out a great deal...

thats the angle i was comming from. I figured if he didn't know how to hook it up, whats the point in purchasing more shit. learn to hook it up first. Like the learn to walk before running mentality. Of course everyone learns differantly at differant speeds and at varing levels. but generally, i think for most people, its easier to focus on 1 thing until they grasp it then move onto the next. from my experience....ive wasted alot of time on deciding what gear to buy and why - when i should have spent that time focusing on whats in front of my face.

dude def has plenty on his plate and should focus on learning, not buying. of course, nothing wrong with asking and figuring it out. fuggit....lets go make some beats.....
