2000Classic Main Volume Knob Problem

Hey everyone the knob for my main volume on my mpc is a bit broken. The knob comes off itself but that is not the real issue...the real issue is that whenever i touch the knob it cuts out and i have to keep touching it and leave it in the "right" spot for everything to play at the expected volume. is there a way to fix this? i looked under the knob and there is some dust, could this be the issue? what is the best solution for this

Most probably the contacts of your knob post are broken, so check the board if the contacts are okay, if not, then an iron solder machine is the way you need to go...

You just have to replace the volume pot. MPC Stuff sell it, and you'll have to open your MPC-2000, desolder the old pot, and solder the new one.
I tried to find the same pod form other vender, but it is a bit of odd size, I could not find the same parts, so I bit bullet and bought it from MPC stuff. (I had to order twice for the same parts for gain and volume, S & H killed me!)
I've done it when I had 2000 classic and it was a bit of hustle because the small board is wired to the main board, and I don't think there is a way to detach it from the main board (correct me if I'm wrong), so was hard to do desoldering and soldering.
Actually I might have picture of 2000 classic when I was repairing the pots.

By the way, I'll have to replace the volume pot for my 2000XL too, please let me know if any one know the part number for mouser.com.

also, get a can of contact cleaner (it's an electronics cleaner that comes in a spray can) and spray some in the knob... it may help if it isn't broken. It likely needs to be replaced though... but the can will be good to have anyways for future gear.

had the same issue, new pots were the way to solve it. when you`re getting it repaired, go for a new pot for the rec volume also. probably you`ll have the same issues with that one soon. price is a little higher but disassembling the machine is the most time (and money) consuming part...

Should i send my mpc to get fixed by a professional instead? if so, could you show me a reputable repairsman i could contact please and thank you

well I suppose mentioning forat might be okay, but that will be pricey... dont rule out electronics repair places or tech people who do soldering etc... any of those types of guys could do the job if you have the correct replacement component.
