almost 200 bucks cheaper..... i don't know about that, it would be perfect for somebody who travels a lot and can't take there mpc ,asr, mv, or whatever with them, Ni is really making moves as of lately

I agree. 1.7 dropped today for Maschine which brings Komplete 8 integration. I'm downloading it now.

There's got to be an option to buy the controller seperately for pre-existing Maschine owners.

Hmmm good question. I was under the impression that the hardware was kind of like a big dongle. I haven't tried to open up Maschine without the hardware connected though. That would be cool if there was an option to purchase just the Mikro hardware.

What are we saying pricewise approximately in pounds? Any ideas?
For around the £200 pricepoint this could be worth a look, any more and I'm afraid... I'm taking a Theo on this one, and I'm out.

Oh ok cool. Essentially what they just did was create their version of an Mpc 1000. It's got all the features of Maschine but in a smaller package right? $200 less for a slightly smaller unit, one LCD screen, and minus the knobs.

There was an option with the original Maschine hardware but it was only for current license holders and it was priced ludicrously. It costed only a fraction cheaper than just buying a whole new software license and controller again. Current Maschine license holders should be given the option to get this Mikro controller for a third of the price of buying the original new. Not sure if that will happen.
Seeing this in their newsletter this morning surprised me too. I tried the Maschine for months when it first came out and again when the 1.6 came out. I'm optimistic about where it's going but it's not for me, yet. If this can be had for half the going street price of the regular hardware, many are going to jump on this. That's if they don't jump on it as is.

Maschine runs without the controller, it's not a dongle. I guess the portability factor is cool, but the original is fairly light and fits even in a small backpack. Having to do everything with one rotary would probably drive me crazy, and in my opinion take away a lot of what makes Maschine so quick.
I think the replacement controllers Helios mentioned were $449 USD.

I was looking for a good controller to use with Reaper & Studio one, on Ni's site its listed for $399 Us, 349 euro, usually its a little cheaper at sweetwater, American musical, Nova music, & Etc.

Good point.
As soon as I saw this the Mpc 1000 came to mind.... I think most people purchased the Mpc 1000 because it was the least expensive route to owning a new Mpc. I think this is part of NI's strategy with the Mikro.
