wut up pples !......so im really really intrested in scoppin me up a 4000 for all of the dope x tra freatures ... i currently make all my beats on a 2000xl love it and use it a lot.... knowin m way around the xl really well brings me to my question ... is it goin to b a big learning curve to get the hang of the 4k or is it somewhat similar to the 2kxl work flow??

The MPC basics are all there, but it's a whole different beast. Excessive fan noise is the only thing that keeps it from being my main MPC. (I have XL,1000+2500 JJOS, and a 4000). I might brave replacing the fan following some threads here. Certainly there's a learning curve, but it probably wouldn't be too bad, as all the new stuff will make you giddy with joy, and are likely features you wished for anyway. I've only seen people regret selling a 4000, never off buying one.

I figured the majority of the 4k out in about a week, its all in front of you and if you spend time with it and not give up on it when frustrated its well worth the features and overall work flow IMO. Hated the first day or so but now I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

I haven't researched this issue so i could be completely off base, but are you sure its not your fan, My fan is really not that noticable unless I put my ear up to it lol def. not as noticeable as pc fan

It seems to only be the really old white ones. It's very loud like a 386 era PC fan, I have my MPC's in a back room, and it can be heard from the living room. In the threads here people tried to determine if it was the HD that might be the noisemaker. In some cases it was, but in others it was definitely the fan.

Arkyve, do you have blue model? I've heard those were all near silent.

4000 is the best mpc ever made. do it. the work flow is a little different, but it smashes a 2000xl. wait until you hear how it sounds vs the xl. as soon as you load up sounds and hit the pads, you'll notice immediately.

yea so it looks like im a scoope one up tommaro for 750 ... it has no upgrades to it ... is this a pretty good deal? the guy said he barley used it ... still im a try to test it out to check for any flaws ... like the ins and outs workin properly and if theres any lines in the screen etc... (n e sugestions on other checks??)

if i do grab it tommaor which im if everything seems good im pretty sure i will .. im definitly goin to get the 8 outs and the x tra ram from mpcstuf.com (unless somebody can tell me else where)

another thing that seemed intrestin was the Akai IB-4ADT ... i know its 8 outs with an optical cable but how does it work ? i have an interface wit an optical connection but never used it ... does the digital connection make a difference or is it just convient to have one cord insted of 8 ?? ... i guess my main q's is what benifits does it have compared to the analog 8 outs?

maby ill get both after i save up some dough but for now i need to decide on one... n e opinions?

The ADAT expansion board is quite rare and they tend to go for top dollar if/ where they can be found.

The digital outputs are assigned through the MPC4000 software in the same way as the analogue outputs.

It provides all the advantages of digital transfer (exact copy, no signal degradation or noise) and bypasses the digital-to-analog conversion of the analogue outs.

And yes, one cable is far tidier and easier to manage than eight...

But then if you want to incorporate analogue mixers and outboard gear (EQ, filters, FX) to the signal flow the analogue outs will be more useful for some people.

Always negotiate on price, do your homework by looking at similar and expanded units on mpc-hunter.com and ebay.

Any faults or damage to the machine = more room to negotiate.

If you can meet the seller with a buddy of yours and stay safe...

It might be slightly embarrassing for me too, as I've always felt dumb that I got 4 and none of them are a 3000.

i didnt get the machine cuz of this ^^^ u opened my eyes a lil ....after all the upgrades i would of been spendin 1100 + so im gunna put this on the back burner for a minit wait till my season job comes around in a mounth... make some extra loot and look for a 4000 with some upgrades already done to it .. mean while im gunna pimp out my 2kxl a lil to get rid of the "new gear buying impulse" ... has any body used mpc hunter b4 ? .. saw some really good machines on there! with all the upgrads i want plus some ... but all of the auctions were ended

MPC Hunter just aggregates all the ebay and craigslist links he can find. So a lot of the listings have very small windows. Just check it regularly, as he seems to not miss any of the MPC's that are trading.

Hunters the Man, he even picked up my German listing for a s950 and translated it
