First step to upgrading my MP2500???

I just purchased a mpc 2500 and im ready to blow my baby out! Should I start with a hdd???

If you think you want access to that many samples. A 150GB HD will format to about 125GB if you format on/in the 2500. You could get the full 150GB if you format the HD in a PC. That's a lot of sample space, especially on a machine that can only load 128MB of data at a time. (You do have your RAM upgrade already? )

I'm not saying don't do it, I like having an HD in mine, but you can use 2,4,6,8GB CF cards and still have a lot of samples on the cards.

If you hate the green LCD, colored LCD's are available from $100-$120, cheaper if you source your own and are a soldering /tinkerer type.

I got mine with a CD/DVD drive already installed, but I don't find much use for it.

Thnx for the reply meta! I def dont need that much space...maybe about 20 - 40 gigs. I have a cd/dvd drive already. I just can only load 1 kit (depending on how big the wavs are) and then I run out of space and it sucks!!!

You definitely only have the stock 16MB of RAM. The official Akai RAM is overpriced, check this thread for the exact specifications for the RAM, and order 3rd party RAM from an online vendor.

As far as CF cards, I usually wait till Newegg has a buy 10 or 12 sale.

It was a few months ago. I needed some for my XL, so I went with Sandisk 2gb (1gb format limit on XL). I think it was a percentage discount if you bought 10, and they came out to like $12 buck each. If you get on Newegg's mailing list, they will send you tons of emails, but they are usually pretty good offers. Periodically the CF cards are in the promotions.
