i was saving for that but after i saw the video i'm reconsidering the purchase... you can do most of that with a KP3, except for the analog sound... wouldn't be better to get a virus or some other synth and layering drums as usual instead?
finally you'll always need something to trig samples aside the tempest, and 2000 is enourmous...

I thought that too.. but I have heard that dave in the end wont be involved with the linndrum 2 and that is what we have been waiting for... though this physically looks similar in design. Who knows though if that is actually still happening.

my view is that the tempest is a marriage of mpc-style workflow with classic analog drum machines like the 808. 6-polyphony, yes, but i believe each voice is essentially a prophet voice with some extra drum-specific features added on. if you're the sort that sits up in an attic with an mpc, a turntable, and a crate, it ain't for you. more for the electro/acid/idm crowd, and perhaps some dancepop producers. it's a box to be slaved to the mpc, rather than one to replace it. the price is borderline extortion, but i still want one.

A limited number are supposed to be released this month, with a full rollout in October. Audiomidi.com is one retailer that's getting them this month. It's only turned out to be a 60-90 day delay. It's the voice architecture that has me intrigued. 4 analog OSC's plus 2 digital samples per voice. With a keyboard hooked up, this thing will double as a decent analog synth. If it weren't for that I wouldn't even consider it at that price.

There's a thread at Gearslutz with lots of info from Chris Pym, the guy at Dave Smith Instruments doing the OS programming. He said user sample import for the 2 DCO's per voice will probably be implemented in a second or third OS revision. So Machine Drum (275 euro! wow Gertie!) UW style sampling is as far as that might go, MPC style sampling is still gonna be the mysterious Linndrum 2.

mhhhhh...now i´m in a bit of a dilemma. do i cop tempest or the beat thang and donate the remaining 500 $ to aja. he could use it for a new haircut or so
