Why would you want the MPC to be the slave ?

I have been thinking about this and cant work out why you'd want to do it. Wouldnt you be sacrificing the mpc's sequencer by using it as the slave. Thus just making a bank of audio samples being triggered by something else?

Does anyone use he mpc slaved ? I'd love to hear more about how and why you do this.

i have my mpc slaved to my daw

you can use the MPC as a sound module with another sequencer/sampler if you like
and use the cutoff/res filter to tweak long samples and/or loops

I slave my MP to my DAW only for tracking purposes. I guess if someone liked the sample editing workflow of an MPC, but preferred a keyboard controller or a different sequencer it would make sense. My MP is the centerpiece of my rig though. Everything, including MIDI capable fx units, are connected to it via a MIDI patch bay.

also if u have a hardware multitracker it can make sence..

I've never had success with the Mpc as the Master,...The only way I could get sync to work was with the Mpc as the slave. I'm not sure if my Mpc 2500 was to blame or if the problem was Cakewalk Sonar. Now days everything I do is ITB except for my turn table of course...I sure don't miss those sync-ing days.

That's it right there, slave the MPC for tracking.

For sequencing it makes sense for the MPC to be master device.

I also prefer to use midi clock for sync whenever possible as it is tempo driven.

Yep, MPC slave is the way I'd track to a DAW

i do it the other way around. when I want the musick from the 4k to be recorded into Cubase, the Mpc is always set to Master. Works fine for me, no sync issues

Good to know Cubas still offers to slave.

Unfortunately, Logic dropped this with version 9 - much to my annoyance.

Sorry for the slight hijack -I was hoping to use MMC to use the MPC's transport commands to run Logic. Is anyone doing this successfully?

As far as I know, the mpc doesn't send an mmc message for record. Of course there are work arounds for this if you're strictly tracking out with the mpc but if it's being used as a regular transport control for your daw then you'll probably find this frustrating.

Thanks. I could live without record. What about Play, Play Start, Stop, REW, FFWD and LOC points?

Play, Play Start, and Stop are all there. The step buttons act as locator buttons. If I remember correctly, the jog wheel can be used to locate as well.
