slaving fantom to mpc , slaving mpc to protools

can anybody give me precise instructions on how to slave my fantom to my mpc and then slave my mpc to protools to the master? I would really appreciate your guys help.

You are getting things confused.

During the process of locking two or more sequencers together via midi (midi synchronisation) you must choose one master device which could be the MPC or Pro Tools, even the Fantom if you wanted.

The master device controls the transport control and sets the master tempo (hence the name) which all other devices are slaved to.

If sequencing on the MPC it is usually made the master device, but not always so.

Also you must be clear about midi sync and why you think you need it, ie what are you actually trying to do?

I am trying to use my Mpc as my sequencer and protools as my master. I would like it if when i pressed play in pro tools my Mpc and my fantom would play. I already have pro tools as my master and my mpc slaved to protools but i don't know how to have my fantom slaved to the mpc

do you really need to 'slave' your fantom? are you running sequences on your fantom (you said you want mpc to be sequencer)?

if you dont need the tempo in the fantom, then there is no 'slaving' going on...you just set it up to receive midi from the mpc and set tracks in your mpc to output midi.

finally, the mpc MIGHT still output midi clock if it is slaved, though i'm not sure on this. simply set up your mpc to send 'midi clock' and then set yer fantom up to receive it.
can someone confirm if mpc sends midiclock even if the mpc itself is slaved to another clock?

In the OP's scenario both the MPC and Fantom would be slaved to and receive midi sync signals direct from Pro Tools (in other words direct from the master device).

You only need to synchronize multiple sequencers if they each contain midi data for notes, arps, delays, LFO's and other time based effects.

Using a synth or DAW as a sound module generally does not require midi sync, except in the circumstances mentioned above.

To the OP, what role do Pro Tools and the Fantom play in your setup and where do you record your note data?
