how do u guys record into them, do u guys record into em using midi??? but when u record the midi u cant hear the audio....

so u plug the back of the 1/4 inch of the keyboards audio outputs into the mpc and then u can record into it (in the record screen/sample into it).. problem is ... your keyboard riffs or segment/loop is pretty fast and its to fast to match the tempo of your drum beat on the mpc... do u guys all time stretch it this is one method...

but i just seen cats use that other method!! . in there main screen they record a drum part on track 1, go to track 2 and its all Keyboard ... how do u record the audio like that man ? ive seen it done on videos im just like whoa how do they do it

you need to hook the midi out of the mpc to the midi in of the keyboard and then the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of the mpc. then you hook the audio out of the synth to the audio in of the mpc 1 & 2. now you can start playing the sequence and record the midi information to a track.

then go to your synth and play around with the decay of the sound, the slower the sequence, the longer the sounds and the faster the sequence the shorter the sound... then once you happy with the lick, go into record on the mpc, set the threshold and hit play------

It's a question of understanding MIDI, I'm afraid: In, Out Channels, multitimbrality etc. Plus the MPC's features like Soft Thru, dual Outs.

When you see cats sequencing keyboards with their MPC they are not monitoring the audio on the MPC, they have the audio outputs of the keyboard as well as the MPC plugged into a mixer or soundcard of some sort so they can hear both at the same time as described in stereoroid's link.

ive got an mpc 4000

ive seen people record in the Main page, and not just in record like theyll have on track 1, a drum track they made up, and then on track 2 theyll jump on like a triton and record riffs and stuff... and thats the way they do things
how do u do this ??
ive got the 1/4 outs on the triton to the back and i can record the audio into the mpc ok...but im trying to do it all on the main page u know what i mean?? instead of going in the record page in the mpc... recording it like im sampling the riff...then chopping it to your liking, then assigning it to your pad, then recording it into your sequence too much drama! (work)
is this how everyone does it though??

Don't know about the MPC4000, but let me describe the situation on the MPC1000 in case it helps:
Each Track has two places you control the output:
1) Program field: This lets you play samples in a Program inside the MPC, or "Off" for no internal samples.
2) MIDI Field: 1A ... 16B = send the track data to one of 32 channels (16 per out, 2 outs ), or "Off" for no MIDI out.
You can set both at the same time, so a single track's MIDI can go to either, both or none, as you wish.

yo, if you got the 4000, theres just so much you can do with it. I would suggest reading that whole manual like twice... theres alot to learn and do...

hey, the manual isnt that good to begin with believe me....it's far behind in o.s's they really do need to release a new manual with all the new features the 4000 has...
my problem is not working the mpc 4000 its sycning a keyboard up 2 it so i can record the audio in the main/sequence page AND NOT just in the Record/Sample page(screen)

you can always buy a metronome and set it to the beats tempo play along and sample your riffs into the mpc. it will be a totally different approach depoend on if u use midi or audio.
