Can't get MPC to record?

I'm a rookie on MPC and need some serious help, I'm on day 2 going crazy here!

Okay I have an MPC 2500 with a 160GB HARD DISK installed and formatted on the MPC so it's readable by the MPC. I also have the FLASH MEMORY card 128MB installed in the front slot.

I have Memory both of those places and I'm trying to record in the record window though the ANALOG L/R inputs in the back of the MPC. I have sound coming in and can hear it, and see the audio jumping on the record window but when I hit record it does nothing?

I read the manual and TIME: 00m00s is supposed to be set however long I want to record my sample, but for some reason I can't change the TIME: 00m00s nothing happens with the jog wheel?

My only guess is that it won't let me record any amount of time because the internal memory is not enough.
Supposedly there is 16MB INTERNAL MEMORY but I have none of that to work with possibly.

Here are my 3 questions:

1) Why can't I change the TIME parameter is it a memory issue and if so how can I make room for more samples safely without destroying my programs.

2)Can I play back samples that are stored on the HARD DISK on the pads or do they have to be loaded on the internal memory first.

3) Is there a way to erase the INTERNAL MEMORY, and if so would my MPC work Properly afterward and only lose the PAD PROGRAMS and SAMPLES.

Should be hitting the DO IT button, not the RECORD button which is for recording your sequence, once you get some samples in.

Thanks ILL-Green for the reply, okay I figured out part of my mystery, I have some samples loaded but only 8 pads of 2 bar samples each and my MPC is now full won't let me record anymore samples how do I get around this? I have a ton of memory besides the INTERNAL MEMORY, but how do I record to alternative memory source?

You're talking about 2 different things. They're not the same types of memory. Maybe think of it as the difference between hard drive space on a computer and the RAM in your computer.
Your hard drive and CF memory card are just hard drive space for saving and loading into the internal memory which is a flash ROM memory. Meaning that it will only hold data temporarily not really as storage but for quick access.
Any sound that goes into the MPC has to be loaded or saved into the internal memory.

The answer to your problem is easy... Buy more RAM for your 2500, load it with 128MB of RAM and it'll hold A LOT of samples. I've never ran out on 128...

The Akai 128MB RAM is too pricey. Do a search on here for types of RAM for it and you'll find lists of brands that have been tested and work great, and which one's don't work so well with it.
