buying second hand mp 4000

hey yall was considering buying a second hand 4000 found one reasonably cheap was wondering if they have mute grouping for the pads like some of the later model mpcs ? and its an ebay auction so is there any important questions i should ask about the unit before purchase ive asked the obvious ones about age and if the pads work etc but not sure what else i should ask since i know nothing about the 4000 comming from a 2kxl and 2500 any help appreciated.

Yes the 4000 has mute groups.

You could ask a few questions though:

1. Does it have the optional eight outputs or the Adat interface?
2. Does it have a cd-rom drive fitted?
3. What size is the hard drive, are factory samples preloaded?
4. Is the original manual present?
5. Are there any lines on the display screen?
6. Has the machine had any parts replaced since new?
7. Does the USB connect with Aksys as it should?
8. Are you the original owner?
9. Why are you selling and could I collect the machine if I wanted?
10. Can I return the unit if faults are identified within a set period?

Be sure to use a safe payment method such as paypal for additional buyer protection.

8 outputs, no adat, cd rom yes, 120 gig, no samples, no manual but available as download, no lines, all nice and clear, fan replaced with better one, usb good, not original owner


seems like a good deal to me as long as it does have mute groups itl be great since il be using it for a lot of live use with synths all over the pads so need to be able to stab them out without overlapping heavily which my xl did.

Optimystical, how much is the seller asking if you don't me inquiring. I bought a used 4000 without the output upgrades for $800 USD, I think something between $800-$900 is reasonable if the machine is very clean. (My fan definitely need a replacement.)

its being listed on a new zealand site where i live an and hes asking $2000 nz dollars so would probaly be around $900 US im not to sure on the exchange rates these days.

NZ $2000 is about $1550 USD, so I would suggest that it's a little pricey to be honest.

There's one for sale here in Melbourne for $1000 and that's about what I paid for mine as well.

However, I guess they are probably pretty rare in NZ? Still, try and make a cash offer for less.

got one today for $700. small lines in the screen. not really a problem, but a new screen is about $200, so still not bad.

yea i was gonna try get him down to about say $1800 or so. moneys not the issue i just wana make sure i get something dope got one last question can i preview say drum sounds ive saved on the harddrive before i assign them to the pads or do i have to load them first then preview like the xl ?

Yes, you can preview any sample prior to loading it, straight from the sample browser. And it loads 24 bit samples!
