MPC 2000XL SCSI Freezing Issue

I tried searching the forum first but couldnt seem to find an answer to my question. I have a 2000XL and recently bought a zip drive (Iomega ZIP 100) When trying to switch from floppy to SCSI, my MPC freezes. It freezes as soon as the jog wheel turns not even giving me the option to select a SCSI channel. From what I have read, this may be due to a blown SCSI fuse. Has anyone ever had this same problem and managed to fix it? Where can I buy the fuse (Digikey dosent have it) Thanks for the help.

do you have termination turned on? you should.


Oh and is it a scsi zip? the parrall zips are indentical except for the scsi id switches on the rear.

i remember that.. lol first time i thought i came up on a cheap zip drive.. darn parallel drives mess'n wit my mind..

Could also be a duff SCSI cable
This could cause the same symptoms.

It is a paralell drive, I guess that is the problem. I recently bought the drive off of a guy on craigslist for cheep. It came with a bunch of unopened ZIP and JAZ disks. Now the question is to by a SCSI Zip or JAZ drive?

You might want to look into a CF Card reader if you gonna be coming out the pocket anyway. I used zips on my XL for a while, but the CF switch was a hell of a relief.

I have given that some thought but it definately seems more expensive. Also, how do you get your existing samples from floppy to one of those cards if you are removing the floppy drive? Do you need to just start over?
I used to have an ASR 10 with an Iomega ZIP 100 and I was quite happy with it, didn't give me any problems and and it held so much stuff.

Oh how I wish my ASR had SCSI. There are numerous posts here about the Addonics CF readers. Guys get them super cheap off the web and usually fashion their own mounts, and if necessary, front bezels. Some of them get it done for $20-$30, and one guy I think managed to only spend like $6.

The MPCStuff one is very overpriced, but at least it's hot swappable. I won't lie I paid $100 more than I should, but I just wanted to get it done as simply as possible. Those threads here list specific models of the cheaper readers if you're that kind of tinkerer.

I suppose you'd want to get an external USB floppy drive, I think I paid $25 for mine brand new. I don't think the XL formatted disks will be a problem on Windows. If they are, maybe you could run a Win98 bootdisk like you have to for ASR disks. But if the XL zips are read on XP/Vista/Win7 I don't think you have an issue. Local independent PC shops will also do transfers for a fee.
