Buying a used mpc 2000xl from mpc stuff

Hi I am looking at buying a used mpc 2000xl from mpc stuff. I feel more comfortable buying from mpc stuff because there mpc's have upgrades and I know it won't have a crap screen. But I was wondering if I could get a better deal on eBay for the same mpc or should I just buy the one off of mpc stuff. Has anyone bought a used mpc off of them? If so are there products worth it?

mpcstuff probably buys their stuff off eBay... so go figure...

i'd say save yourself the $350 and get a decent one on ebay for $500 as long as there are good pics of the screen.

If you aren't stuck on the 2KXL, $850 is well in the range of the 2500.

agreed... the 2500 has a lot more features and can also use JJOS... the 2XL is built a bit more sturdy [minus the screen], but only allows up to 32MB of memory though...

mpc stuff is selling these to make a profit off of them, but you can find them cheaper on ebay.
if your worried about getting one off of ebay with a screen that will go out, you could wait awhile for a really nice one to pop up, then if the screen ever did get lines in it, or start to go out on you, you could always buy a new screen from mpcstuff... i did just check that out though and i didnt realize the screens for the 2kxl's were 365 dollars

either way, i would try and wait for a nice one to pop up with a good screen; and you could still save some dough on it.

like the other members said though, a 2500 isnt much more, or even just a 1k. and you can get those for hella cheap on ebay.

if you do get a 1k though, make sure it has the pad upgrade.

Depending on where you live and what's available you can find very nice 2000XL's on craigslist. I paid $400 for an XL in such good shape you could still feel the factory textures on the buttons. Granted it's likely a late 2002-2004 model, and the previous owner clearly never used it.

I agree with the other post, $500 is the ceiling on an XL, and if this is to be your only MPC, a 1000 or 2500 is probably a better look.

way too much for xl, I see them on local craigslist in 400 range, and you looking at screen replacement at some point later down the road that is if you can find one, which would put that mpc at over 1k... 2500 can be had for this much from ebay

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think ill just wait for now and see if I can get one cheaper. If not ill just go for the 2500. I have one more question. Will I make more money selling my mpc 500 to mpc stuff or on eBay?

Obviously we're just guessing, but it's seems like a single person looking to buy on eBay would pay more than a business looking to turn a profit on a re-sale.

man, people that are gonna say this need to define 'perfect' a little bit. maybe its perfect today, but does that mean it wont start getting lines tomorrow?

with the kind of prices they go for and the seeming inevitability of breakdown, i'm incredibly wary of used screens.

as much as i love the xl, i think that's a bit high. they do pop up on craigslist all the time for ~ half that.

MPC Stuff sells a tact switch for XL for about 7 bucks a piece, which can be bought for 1 buck at Radio Shack.
Yes, they overcharge, but I think you'll get a full-serviced MPC-2000XL. If you are not good at repairing electronics, then buying from MPC Stuff may not be a bad idea.
I got my 2000XL with 8 out via ebay, about 350 bucks. I had to replace majority of tact switches and the jog dial, and note variation fader. Plus, the drum pad was sticky, so I had to apply electrical tape on each pad on the back (idea is same as applying the round-cork spacer thing from MPC forum)
It cost me a lot of money (but definitely less than $100 total) and time, but it was a fulfilling project.
