808 overusage

What I meant was it would be annoying if the cowbell became overused in all those horribly generic sounding tracks.

Used well, it's fine (still not my favorite sound, though)

the 808 cowbell is a signature sound
is being used by thousands of people

i like cowbells

Hmm perhaps I didn't formulate it well. I mean, the sound are cool to layer with your chopped breaks n stuff, but I was ranting on those *cough* lil wayne *cough* type of beats where the producers instantly use flat 808 kicks, hats and snares.

them 808 rolls on weezys tracks are disturbing...personally I dont use them much unless layered

i think the 808 is overused only because it seems like these microwave producers/beat makers do not understand the concept of variety.

i like the 808's but they should not be a fixture in the dirty south like they are. and no everywhere.

i hated it, then i started using it, then i hated myself
now i like running it through virtual amps and cabinets so that it's dirty and loud as hell
if you can preserve the kick without it getting too distorted, baby, you got yourself a stew goin

The only time I can stomach a full 808 kit is in Electro type stuff.

I wonder what kind of impact the Tempest will have? It may not even have a signature sound... possibly a good thing? ???

Soul II Soul + Loose Ends = TR-808 full kit.

Both groups from the mid 80's, classic UK soul vibe...

Love those funky beats to death and the kick wasn't overused.

And who can forget Planet Rock...

Classics are classics. I just haven't liked the re-emergence of the 808 in Hip Hop in recent years.
