Okay here is a revised list and I'm sure Heavy you got most of these.


I pulled out a couple records in the crate closest to my MPC so here you go.

Mango meat by Mandrill

House where the hatred is by Gil Scott Heron

Ciato by Francisco Aquabella (this song is just fat)

Walking in my sleep by Monk Higgins (this was unopened and have to listen to the whole joint)

Smoking Cheeba Cheeba by Harlem Underground "I'm the hoochie coochie man.....I love it."

Mind you most of these don't have any open drum break but, there were in the crate so I felt like listening to them...hehehehehe

Smokin' Cheeba Cheeba has an open drum break that has been used many times. Also if you have an original pressing Harlem Underground LP I would classify that as heat seeing as how the Paul Winley stuff is scarce these days. There is also open drums on Ain't no Sunshine which is also on the same Harlem Underground LP. Cheeba Cheeba also came out on a George Benson album entitled "Erotic Moods". There are two different covers for that LP, one that says X-Rated, and one that doesn't. They pulled the album from the press out of fear that the reefer song would tarnish George's image. Yes you are correct I have all 3 of them. Nice stuff!

Right after I wrote that I was like "Hey actually smoking cheeba does have and open drum break.". I should know this because, I chopped it up on a beat I have......hey I'm getting old what do you want too much hoochie coochie man.

Yeah the Cheeba Cheeba drums are famous and have also been digitized and released on many of those drum CD's. I can recognize those drums a mile away just by the pattern and the way they were originally recorded. It's funny because you can actually hear the beginning of George Benson's breath in the drum loop on many hip-hop songs. I also always get a kick out of that part where he says "...you want a pound or a dime?" as if there's no option in between. What if I wanted a quarter?

I like the aint no sunshine drums better though.

i just got this a few days ago. the harlem underground. Real ill record. Smokin cheeba is real tight thouse drums are ill. I picked up freddie hubbard ride the wind promo, and i got like 4 weather report joints.

I own 10,000 + records. Bob Azam took me 9 years to find. Buckwild killed it back in the day. I have never seen it since. Drums are dope. I only know two other people with the record. I'm not sure what it goes for these days. I haven't looked for it in 5-6 years

It starts with Tom's Diner, a capella voice track, which got knocked up into a dance track in no time (DNA?). The title track has a really strange but smooth groove, then and there's lotsa acoustic guitar to play with. Just don't listen to "Fancy Poultry" in public, like I did on my birthday, almost started bawling on the train...

Yes' Tales From Topographic Oceans is another one, just been sampled by De La Soul (see "Prog" thread).

Depends what you consider nice! LOL...I've been digging for mad years (12-15 years), so I was lucky enough to buy a lot of these $200+ records for $1 back in the day. I took guesses and got lucky...like buying 800 libraries for $0.25 cents each not knowing what there were (6 years ago)...you got ish to trade? I'm always looking for sh!t to move. If you're in Australia you have anything on Pink Elephant Records? I caught my Dolly Wilson back in '96 in Chicago and I haven't seen it since.....or anything else on the label for some odd reason
