zip set up for mpc 60ii 2.14?

Sorry if this has already been answered I've spent at least 3 hours looking through the forum, I am trying to format a zip disk on my mpc 60 but I keep getting the hard disk format failure message. I looked at the manual for version 2.0 and 3.10 and apparently you're able to set the scsi id's internally but I have no idea how to do this for version 2.14 because I can't find any a manual or the marion system option instructions. I'm not sure if maybe the scsi drive is not compatible, it works fine on my asr. Thanks in advance.

Thanks fobedafied have tried all ways, the drive and disks are working properly. The asr has no problem formatting with it just the mpc doesn't even give me an option to set the id. All i get is hard disk format failure. *sigh...I forgot to mention I am using the cable that came with the drive should I be using a specific one or should this be ok? Thanks again!

i know that os version 2.14 shipped with the marion systems scsi expansion installed... BUT...

is os version 2.14 compatible/functional with SCSI devices? maybe not...

even though roger linn design is out of the scsi expansions, they might know if 3.10e is the only Os version that is functional with the scsi expansion...

I read somewhere that the OS 2.14 is the same as OS 2.12 but it included scsi support... which was intended for shipping with the packages that contained the scsi card. Dont quote me on that because I have not used that OS.. I just heard that.

Yeah your right debauch it is the same just with scsi as stock. I read somewhere on this forum that it apparently only likes certain s/n drives but have no idea which ones and no money for 3.10 at the moment. Infact I read some guy say 3.10 changed the sound of his 60 so he took it out. Have no idea if theres any truth to that or if it's even possible but it's made me think twice. Thanks again

Yeah your right debauch it is the same just with scsi as stock. I read somewhere on this forum that it apparently only likes certain s/n drives but have no idea which ones and no money for 3.10 at the moment. Infact I read some guy say 3.10 changed the sound of his 60 so he took it out. Have no idea if theres any truth to that or if it's even possible but it's made me think twice. Thanks again

i doubt the 3.10 changed the sound... honestly it's just more developed features and they removed the help files to fit the extras... the OS upgrade didn't change the A/D conversion or anything else on the hardware besides the eprom .. I would take that with a grain of salt.

I didn't know any 60's were sold with zip as standard.. this is the first time I hear of this... may I suggest though avoiding the zip drive all together though because those are guaranteed to fail and with an mpc60 and it's small files (let alone no folder capabilities etc) you know each zip will be full of data.

hey debauch sorry for the late reply, I don't get alerts in my inbox for some reason. I thought as much about the 3.10 upgrade sounded a bit crazy. The 2.14 doesn't come with a zip drive as stock it just has the scsi installed when it's shipped. I'm using floppy but it's been really temperamental since I got it cos it was shipped with a disk in the drive. Also I thought I would use zip just to back up my floppies and transfer sounds to the asr.

honestly, I would avoid zip disks all together... yeah they hold more, but that is part of the problem. When they go, you are screwed 130 time worse then if a floppy goes... and in my experience floppy drives are more reliable.

the optimal upgrade to go with the scsi connection would be a cf card reader, or at least a hard drive.
