two programs from one midi signal?

hi guys,

quick question. i have a midi signal (notes and clock) going into my mpc 2000 (JJOS 1). is there a way to have one midi signal trigger two programs at once?


i can't just layer the sounds because i want the sounds from the two programs on different channels.


about the only thing i've thought of is to make it into ONE program, edit alllllll 78 samples and replace either left or right channel with silence depending on which channel i want it on. but i don't even think you can do that on the mpc 2000 w/JJOS1? can you?


but it'd be much simpler if i could just trigger two programs from that one signal.......

are you also using a DAW? if so, you can create an input for the first program/channel and then route it back out to the next. you'd need jjos2xl though because this requires multitimbrality.

mmm, it would seem upgrading to JJOS2XL is the answer. haven't had a reason until now.....

you could also just put the 2nd program onto pads C/D of the 1st program
and then simult all of A/B to C/D.

ie, pad A01 simulted to C01,
pad B05 simulted to D05.

my inflated noggin is actually the cause of these problems! it leaves me unable to use the MPC in a simple manner

it all starts off when i find a bit of recording i like. the room mics i've set up around the house captured a nice argument about pizza. i go TRIM->CHOP and just slice it up into 16 bits, create a program. but what to do with this? my noggin tells me:

i take a hardware step sequencer, and send its MIDI into a synth with an arpeggiator. the synth has a switch that lets me have 1in/2midi out instead of in/out/thru. the first out goes back into the step sequencer. whenever the step sequencer fires off a note, the synth's arp eats it up, and eventually churns it back out into the step sequencer. when the step sequencer receives a note over MIDI, it transposes the whole step sequence, causing different notes to be sent back to the synth. with a little careful tuning and good ear, it will spew out pleasant quasi-fractal randomness all day.

so that synth's jobbing around as above. i take the second out from that and run in/thru some other hardware synths, and finally into the MPC.

the random notes randomly trigger bits of my sliced sample. i decide that while 16 slices is fun, i want more ~resolution~. i chop/slice again, into 64 different samples, covering all pads.

then i decide i want both of these at once. i want the 16-slice jobbing randomly on one channel, and the 64 slice jobbing on the other. my MPC is JJOS1 and does not support multitimbrality (tangent: firefox suggested i spell that as 'multiculturalism').

so i upgraded to JJOS2XL. the multitimbralism feature is not quite what i want. due to the setup outline above, all this shit is going down on MIDI channel one. so what's a swollen noggin to do?

the answer is this: i set the first track (listening to MIDI channel 1) to SOFT THRU and then plugged a MIDI cable from the MPC's midi out, back into its second MIDI in. then i used the Channel-B offset thing in midi/sync menu to shift that over a channel.

and boom. i now have both of them jobbing on different channels. and i'm completely out of midi cables
