808 overusage

Not only that, but apparently there's units out there known as "golden" sounding. It could be an urban myth, but I read an interview with the Beastie Boys where they talked about the 808 they left at Rick Rubin's studio, and how it sounded noticeably different/better than subsequent units they've bought.

yesterday i found a sample kit in the Richard Devine website made with a modded 808 that sounds like an alien coming from outer space

i got a yamaha RY9 rhythm programmer that got some sounds similar to the 808 (analog kit). the machine is very portable and got midi interface
but i haven't RTFM so i'm not using it very much...
