Recording/Syncing vocals to mpc1000

Im tryn to record an entire song on my mpc1000. I got the beat competently finished in song mode. I want to now record vocals. In record mode, is there anyway to have it begin recording exactly on the 1st beat of the song? Im doing it just by manually hittin start right when the beat or verse starts, but i would be much more accurate if it automatically starting recording

...or if anyone knows a better way to lay vocals on a beat on the 1000?
