Just curious if the book is worth buying how helpful is it does is go in depth about sampling?

Worth every penny. And it covers the free version of JJOS in case you ever install that.
Sometimes I still laugh out loud about the beat kangz and that time some English dude hacked the Akai marketing website and stole a bunch of pictures of the Ren before it was released.

it's worth the money.
it covers how to use the functions of the MPC, so (if I remember right) it covers how to record a sample on the mpc (which is pretty simple), but it doesn't go into depth about sampling in general (how to choose samples, tuning, multisampling etc.)

Yes, I cover multisampling (in a lot of depth, there's two lengthy tutorials on this) and tuning (discussed in several tutorials, such as tuning drum samples when layering, tuning to create new sounds and special effects, tuning to mimic timbre changes, plus much more).
